The movie would have been received more positively if he called it "The chips are stacked against us so let's stop killing each other".

Lol

Well yeah. Think about it

Believe it or not, names mean something - they communicate information, serve as symbols, and convey and contribute toward the substance of something.

If "How High" was called "Stupid Niggas" , you don't think that would be perceived differently... That it would be more inflammatory; disrespectful ... To the black community?

Ain't nothin wrong with the movie, it appears that how it was executed is what pisses people off

I don't know about "most"... Maybe some.

I haven't and I have repeated that ad nauseum. After I see it this weekend, my opinion could change.

So why not reserve your "yes" vote until after you've seen the movie?

I wasn't specifically calling you out or including you in my comment about pissed off people.

Lol. Really, bruh.

Do you want me to apologize for prematurely voting in the poll.

Nigga we on a fucking message board. I asked a question if you don't want to answer then don't. Fuck if I care

There's something to be said about timing, and elements of hype. Compton was a good album that i still sit with, but as a dr dre fan, i wanted the chronic 3, a detox album that was unapologetic in its west coastness.

We knew a chicago movie was coming because that situation needs awareness brought to it. Everything in the universe was screaming for a raw, long, immersive native driven drama that made me understand chicago's hood culture better, and their twist on the problems we face. John singleton does this very well for cali. In a vacuum its a good movie, but i understand where niggas comin from if they salty.

Niggas wanted detox, and they got compton, but compton is still slick.

I didn't put much thought into clicking the poll option. It matched how I felt at the moment

I feel ya on that brah, but like i said earlier, if dudes actually knew what satire meant, i dont think this is even an issue

I think Spike probably should've had an actual documentary in the works simultaneously so that he could've shown the stats and all the other horrible depictions of what life is like in Chicago. I still think too many people are fussing over nothing tbh. I mean, why didnt Rhymefest and his connections get a doc filmed?

Chiraq needs a documentary and not a feature film

As a person who hasn't seen the film and really has no inclination to see it, all i can say is i dislike Rhymefest's tone. Its really that simple.

You don't like the movie? Fine

You think it was wack? Aight

But all these thinly veiled threats and all that tough jargon he was throwing around was uncalled for.

If Rhymefest had any juice the murders wouldnt be what they are but he wants to try to pull cards on lil, old ass Spike Lee.

im confused by what rhymefest is mad about?

it seems like chicagoans dont understand satire

Kids are being killed daily.

Whats satirical about that

how does it being a satire that take away from the social commentary or make light of the situation in chicago ?

not every movie has to have the look or feel of a city of god, boyz in the hood or the wire.

Definition (google)

Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement.

Haven't seen the movie, so I'm just going off of what I've been hearing.

Basically, I don't think people really have a problem with Spike doing a satire.

The problem is with it being "bad" satire.

Basically, if the satirical context had resulted in a better movie.....there wouldn't be as much criticism directed his way.

it's kinda this simple...the shit just don't look entertaining from the trailer..at all

and the plot is damn near science fiction

Idk guess I gotta see it to really judge but you applyin some wacky ass concept to somethin that's STILL very real dnt seem too genuine if you not atleast somewhat focusin on the whole scope of the issues in Chicago. What's the end goal?

never mind the fact the movie is based off a play written hundreds of years ago...its not like he created the concept from scratch

c'mon ya'll
