I'm disappointed because as a community, we trust spike to handle this cause with care. When I heard spike was on it, I was like aight, our voice bout to be heard. He did his thing to a point, but at the same time.... You want people to understand that we not just out here wildin, our kids ain't out here just trippin out because it's some cool shit to do, it's a method to the madness, a lot leaning on you as a black man from birth. We mostly behind just being black. I felt like spike lee could get that point across with this movie being the backdrop, and a microcosm for many of us.

Everything about the state of the African American man is screaming "Tell them your side of the story". He could have talked to America in a real way, and he didn't. We needed another Malcolm X and we got somethin else. You can't tell people how fucked up shit is wit a clown suit on.

The film to me was like an after school special. It had Spike Lee's fingerprint on it though. It seemed like a blend between "Clockers" & "School Daze."

I think people just riding the bandwagon, either way it wouldve been criticized

Niggas always like 'but he didn't even"

TO THE ONES WHO'VE SEEN IT: Is there any serious tone anywhere throughout the movie?

Full Metal Jacket was hilarious but still managed to have that other side too...is this not the case here?

Decisions decisions, I can't make up my mind cuz of this thread now. I will give it few more days until more ppl who see it speak on it.

"would you make a satire about 9/11?"

.......

Seriously?

YES, why the fuck not? Long overdue, if anything. America NEEDS a satire about fucking 9/11.

Fuck Rhymefest and his smartdumb nigga bullshit.

Why do niggas keep falling back on these "well you wouldn't make [blank] if it offended white people" arguments against satirical art? FOH

he just cant win...then again, a lot of these young dudes giving Spike shit probably havent watched any of his early work so it goes over their heads

they want everything to look like a Slim Jesus/ Chief Keef video

i pointed this out back when niggas was bitching about 12 Years a Slave:

If Spike Lee did a 4 hour epic about Toussaint L'ouverture starring Denzel, complete w/ a half-hour montage of white slavers being lynched and no speaking roles for white actors, you motherfuckers would still find some reason to bitch and moan about it.

"Why are they showing all these white people being killed? obviously bcuz they want you to feel sorry for them"

"they show all these white corpses but only a few black ones downplaying our suffering smh hollywood strikes again"

"why can't we get a movie about Jean-Jacques Dessalines, fucking jews"

And aint no gotdamn method to the madness.

Look at you niggas tho!

Spike made a movie with a poignant message TO the people doin this shit, with the hope of ending it, but you wanted him to make a message to whitey explaining it away, nursing it

There is a serious tone all throughout the movie. Its just written like a play with samuel l providing some entertaining narrative to the uninformed so its easier to follow between the scenes.

Its a good movie man.

@S2J hit the nail on the head. This movie is speaking TO the very people that are promoting the bullshit.
