McHugh's perspective isn't the consensus. Gender dysphoria is not labeled as a disorder in the DSM (it is in there). But so wasn't homosexuality, until it was realized issues of psychosocial functioning were largely a product of exogenous forces and homosexual people were ego-syntonic.

I don't understand why people care so much about what other's do with their bodies. It doesn't make sense to me. You don't see how that might be a problem for you?

Also, the military is grossly unappreciated and under-compensated. If trans people are getting a surgery out of the deal, then good for them. Ignoring that the military is the largest social welfare program America has, that's capitalism!

I worked for a defense contractor for 7 years. I'd still be there if they didn't start layoffs. The DoD is where the government spends the bulk of it's money. The military has a shitload of money for all manner of shit. The military will spend millions of dollars on projects they swear they want then, without warning or reason, change their mind and will abandon it. Money down the toilet bu they can do that 'cause they have so much of it. I've been on projects where we actually got shit built, had functional prototypes up and running, showed the shit off to brass and PMW146 and they were excited to see it working only to have 'em call us up like"we want to do something else. Document everything, pack it all up and stick it in storage". Millions of dollars in man hours down the tubes 'cause they want something shinier and newer.

And I stand by the statement that troops are under-compensated. This is evidenced by 1/3 of America's homeless being veterans.

My guy... If there were more effective services (a form of compensation) for veterans the result of military related trauma and stress disorders would almost certainly not be the issue that it is.

There is only 2700 registered trans people in the military (edit: I keep seeing the number 15,000) we really going to act like money is the issue here? 600 billion a year on all types of bullshit, but trans peoples' healthcare needs are too much?

Simple and plain, this is a way to dehumanize trans people.

I'm not saying that you're doing this, but it's telling when everyday people become allies of the state to oppose other oppressed groups.

This is just the beginning of shit coming down the pipe line from this regime and who is to say that your dignity and right to exist isn't next on the agenda?

I try to look at all things as objectively as I can, so my 2 cents doesn't have much to do with my feelings on Trump or trannies.

So my first question is, is the ban constitutional? I don't know the answer, but the answer seems to be no. Therefore, I don't support the decision.

Besides that, a million other relevant questions could be asked, so it's a complicated issue, imo. Of course, at the end of the day, we (or most of us) just want our military to be competent, regardless.

Oh, and this whole issue is going to be ridiculously blown out of proportion. We continue to live in the twilight zone...

MtF trans lose their combat effectiveness. Beck was a DEVGRU operator(Navy). Alana McLaughlin/Ryan was a Special Forces operator(Army). They would not be able to do what they did now, physically, since undergoing HRT and gender reassignment surgery.
