hey y'all (all mods can chime in)...how about some feedback on this:

...I'm sure you're familiar with Metacritic - the site that factors reviews in the entertainment as far as video games, music, movies, books, etc. and generates an average score for each. My idea was a variation of that, but it will let users write mini (or full-length) reviews of new (sometimes old) album and single releases and rate them, creating a general score from IC posters.

I'm thinking there would be a general score and a separate mod score, if enough mods say they want to participate.. and then eventually we can change that into a "top critics" score, which would include scores from mods anyone who's done over a certain amount of reviews... kind of like a ranking you'd have to earn.

There would be a minimum word length for songs and a higher minimum word length for albums.

This could be good to get some discussion flowing and more professionally share opinions but also something that, if it gets big enough beforehand, can be moved to Reviewably Correct since that section is dead right now. Also could be something good for scouting writers for the main site if needed.

And there will be a review period for each. Maybe a week or 10 days or 2 days where reviews for a particular piece will be accept. Would make it more organized. Ideally these periods will be announced around 4 days to a week in advance...

Pretty soon after its release or leak. Depending on the magnitude of the release, some would go without say, some would be decided by us, and we'd also take suggestions from members into consideration. Ideally, for more popular releases at least, 2 days after it hits ear-waves so people can at least let it marinate on it a bit.

Every once in a while we can maybe poll do to a throwback review. I don't think more than 2 albums or 2 songs should be up for review at the same time just to keep things clean. Constructive criticism on this idea is more than welcome.

We can start the threads in The Reason similar to how when Stew had the album rating threads for classics, let the people vote with a poll and my guys would do the write up summary and we'd have the link directly to the thread on the IC. It'd be a good look.

I'm down with this fam, I still feel that we don't have enough visibility from the IC on AHH. Just tell me when and I'll pull the trigger....

Nice! Good shit. Yeah I thought of Stew's classics thread which was great. I feel like this can be more of a current thing. If your team actually write official reviews, we probably can include them into the mod or top critics score. I don't think we would need a ton of thread with a bunch of polls though. There can be a couple here and there but the main thread can be used for ideas of what to review too.

Some score scaling here... This is heavily influences by the Metacritic system. I made a few adjustments to it but again none of this is final:

I think there should be a limit as well. 80 words for single reviews and 150 for albums (really not that much for an entire album of work).

I thought it'd be a good idea to start with a bigger release that most people would have opinions on.. and since Wayne's album is pushed back further than an IC upgrade *dodges tomato* I think the next would be J. Cole. Was hoping Kendrick's album would drop this month when I was developing this idea in my head a few weeks ago. This could be rolled out by next week or the week after.

In the arcade, how I usually determine if a sticky has run its course for a game release is if there hasn't been an entire page worth of activity in the last week. IE: if I look at the 2nd to last page and the first post is from a week and a half or 2 weeks ago.
