I'm not a Wayne fan but at the end of the day it's about music too, not just lyrics. Lupe might be a dope MC but does he make good-great records? Don't think many people believe so. Also to the average listener they probably don't even catch half the shit he's saying because IMO it feels like he tries way too hard to be complex at times.

The question wasnt about who makes the best records of or if casual "radio rap" fans understand it. the question was about who is and isnt lyrically elite. I think the answer for weezy would be NO but for Lupe it would be YES and i think very few on this board would argue about Lupes skills.. LYRICALLY!

Wayne is better than JayZ in 2011. JayZ pen game is currently nonexistent. His style is currently weak punchlines and forced flow.
Nelly (prime) can rap with anyone, so can Ja Rule (prime). Just because niggas were successful comprising their art doesn't mean they couldn't rap. Some people have to compromise their style more than others to make it big. Nelly and Ja could easily spit some lyrical shit, but then they would be broke, and no one would give a fuck. That lyrical style doesn't work with everyone. Fans only want to here it from certain rappers.
Gucci Mane is okay musically, but comparing him to Wayne is some hater shit.

.... Wayne is dope. He's top 5 currently and he can rap with anyone. No one says wayne is super lyrical, most people like him because of his style. Ill delivery, good flow, witty lines, not too complex and not too basic. He's the right balance of conscious and pop music. Pretty much the same thing Jay was when Jay was in his prime, just to a lesser extent.
