Arum Discusses Crawford's Future, Facing Pacquiao-Horn Winner

By Steve Kim

This past Saturday night, Terence Crawford became the undisputed junior welterweight champion of the world by halting Julius Indongo in three rounds at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. Crawford, who had the WBO, WBC titles, halted Indongo with a body shot in the third to collect the WBA, IBF belts.

His promoter Bob Arum, the head of Top Rank, spoke to BoxingScene.com on Monday morning - and revealed that he's still very much interested in matching Crawford against the winner of the planned rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn, who will battle for the WBO welterweight title.

So will Crawford fight again before the end of 2017?

"That depends on how everything breaks, again he's a very smart kid that likes vacations and so forth and we may not have him fight again this year because we're going to take him to Australia for the Horn-Pacquiao rematch with the hope that next year he would fight the winner," Arum said.

Arum expects Horn-Pacquiao II to take place in the month of November, and once again at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.

"Which means that because that fight is in November that he probably won't be able to fight this year," stated Arum.

Crawford (32-0, 23 KO's) has fought twice in 2017, having stopped Felix Diaz in ten rounds at the Madison Square Garden on May 20th.

If Pacquiao should regain his WBO welterweight title from Horn, would he be willing to face Crawford?

"It all depends on one thing: M-O-N-E-Y. And also whether he wants to retire," said the veteran promoter ."So again, that we don't know. Now, I would hope that if Manny wins the rematch and decides to retire, that title would become vacant and we can convince the WBO to allow Crawford to fight for the vacant title."

Arum Gives Latest on Lomachenko vs. Rigondeaux Fight

By Steve Kim

So is a showdown between a pair of two-time Olympic gold medalists, Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux on the horizon?

There has been more than a fair share of barking between the two camps on social media the past several weeks. Now it looks like some real progress has been made to actually get the two world champions in the ring together.

"We've had very good negotiations," said Bob Arum, who's company Top Rank, represents Lomachenko (the current WBO 130-pound titlist). "Dino (Duva) and myself have gone back and forth, we're circulating documents now and hopefully it'll all get signed up. Is it done, yet? No. But you can't help but be optimistic it's going to get done."

Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs), who is the WBA 122-pound champion, is promoted by Roc Nation Sports.

Back on August 5th, Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) dominated Miguel Marriaga at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, while Rigondeaux had a no-contest against Moises Flores on June 17th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The plan according to Arum is to have Lomachenko-Rigondeaux take place on December 9th at the Theater of Madison Square Garden in New York on ESPN. It looks like this fight will be contested at 130 pounds - with Rigondeaux making good on his promise to move up by two weight divisions to take the fight.

Rigondeaux's last outing took place on HBO Pay-Per-View as part of the Ward-Kovalev II undercard, when he scored a controversial first round knockout of Moises Flores. The outcome was later reversed to a no-decision, after the Nevada State Athletic Commission had ruled that Rigondeaux has inadvertently hit Flores after the bell. The WBA ordered him to have an immediate rematch With Flores, but he will likely seek special permission to take the Lomachenko bout.

Jeff Horn: I'd Fight Mayweather Like Maidana Did - But Consistent!

Australia's Jeff Horn has given Conor McGregor little chance of beating Floyd Mayweather in Saturday's super-fight and hopes the American will "annihilate" the mixed martial arts fighter for the sake of boxing.

Horn, who became WBO welterweight champion by beating 38-year-old Manny Pacquiao in Brisbane last month, said McGregor would struggle to even land a punch on the undefeated American.

Mayweather (49-0) has not fought in nearly two years but is a heavy favourite to surpass Rocky Marciano's record in the Las Vegas bout, which purists have dismissed as an exhibition.

"I hope Mayweather annihilates him and I think he will," Horn said in comments published by News Ltd media on Tuesday.

"It will be dreadful for the sport of boxing if Mayweather, one of the greatest fighters of all time, gets rolled by a guy having his first fight but I can’t see McGregor doing too well even with all the hype.

"Their fight is going to be under boxing rules and Mayweather will probably not even get hit.

"If McGregor’s got any sense he’ll crash tackle Floyd at the opening bell and put a choke hold on him, get disqualified and then they’ll have a rematch and make even more money."

Saturday's fight is tipped to test the pay-per-view and revenue records set by the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout in 2015.

Mayweather's defeat of the Filipino generated over $400 million from 4.6 million pay-per-views.

After Horn's own win over Pacquiao, the Australian immediately laid down a challenge to Mayweather, holding up a walking stick to bait the 40-year-old.

Former schoolteacher Horn is set for a rematch against Pacquiao in Brisbane later in the year but said he would "love a crack" at Mayweather.

"He could challenge me for the world welterweight title. And if McGregor wanted to fight me I’d take it right now. I wouldn’t be worried one bit," said the 29-year-old.

Horn added that he would fight Mayweather like Marcos Maidana, who pushed the American in two defeats in 2014.

"A few years ago we saw Marcos Maidana from Argentina give Floyd the fight of his life but Maidana didn’t have the engine to sustain it for 12 rounds," the Australian said.

"I’d fight Mayweather like Maidana did but I’d do it for 12 rounds, not six."
