Both are slept on.... krit hometown hero is a great track

I am a big fan of Big Krit and Jay Elec and J Cole but they are not even that big in their regions as they should be. Yes on the internet they have huge buzz. Yes in parts of their hometown they are huge. But The rest of the south doesn't know krit like that. Go to atlanta or miami or knoxville or little rock and ask people in the hood who krit is and few would know much if any at all.

which is kinda true niggas make the west coast the entire strech of land on the western seaboard from washington to souther cali. But as soon as you say the east coast is a region from maine to miami with cities like atlanta, DC, not "counting" as part of the "east coast" even though they are on the 95 corridor or close to the coast is ill logical.

the regions are The South, The East Coast, The West Coast and the Mid West. Then it breaks down to cities, NY, Philly, Detroit, Miami, LA, New Orleans, Atlanta.

The South as a region is on top, and Miami is the homebase right now for the South. It has gone from Atl, to NO, to Houston, back to Atl, and now Miami. You can argue and say, that this is not true, but then you examine most popular songs, and they are selling you Miami nights and living. Fast cars, exotic women, Champagne, cocaine are not exclusive to Miami but its not something you picture in CT, if you had your choice of backdrops.

but that "lifestyle" has nothing to do with the music from miami which right now is not "winning". Ross is playing second fiddle to lil waynes tour (which by the way is not getting the ticket sales they expected) and the buzz is really low. Also Khaled album full of "fast cars" "exotic women" and "coccaine" flopped big time.

And again how is the south on top when their music is not doing anything and those artists that are sucessful from that region do not even sound like they are from the south but more pop top 40 music which gets its roots from southern cali and new york?

Because when atl n mia start gettin on in 90s east coast/new york was hatin beside the fact they are confedarate states n have southern culture but I admit da carolinas got ny mix wid da ny bloods n shit but when does it stop aint tennesse below illinois n ohio so,should, tenn be midwest should missouri be south its right above arkansas. Like n yo city east/west side run thru whole city but at some point u say this south down north up there

The i am still music tour is the biggest hip hop tour currently, both headliners based out of Miami, but thats not winning.

People are having "mixtape release parties" while MMG and Khaled are selling 100k+ of their mixtapes for 10 bucks a pop, but thats not winning.

Changing the landscape of today's music and another regions playlist towards a southern dominated sound and artists, but thats not winning.

Em, Jay, Kanye, Wayne, Drake, Nicki, Ross are inarguably at the top of the game right now, so 4 out of the top 7 are based out of the south, but thats not winning.

And before you try to say, well Drake from TO or Nicki from Queens, I guess that means Chicago cant claim MJ because he isnt from there, thats the team they are on.

Now Im not saying other regions is losing, but the South is winning, and if you listened to the radio in the 90's, you would see how much the styles changed, and how much it is now southern influenced.

Shit man I think NY has had the shortest reign of any region - think about they really only had from 97-2001 just 4 years, meanwhile the West had from 89-96 (NWA,Cube, Pac, Snoop, Dre, etc.) , & the south has had it since 2003 to 2011 an astonishing 7-8 year reign.

Even today.... look at who the niggas who got next are:

Curren$y

J.Cole

Jay Electronica

Big KRIT

Freddie Gibbs

Marcus Manchild

Rick Ross

ALL southern niggas.... NY has no excuses either - all the major labels are based their & its the biggest city in America, NY is big enuff & rich enuff to be its own country. Im sorry New York.

Shit aint been the same since Snoop & Tha Dogg Pound came thru & crushed they buildings. Real Talk.

NYC had this shit on lock from 1980's till 89 ( did you really forget about Run DMC, EPMD, Rakim, Big Daddy kane, BDP, Slick Rick etc..???)

And heres a list of classic hiphop albums from NYC in the 90's:

- One for all came out in 90'

- Breaking Atoms came out in 91'

- 36 Chambers came out in 93'

- Ready To Die came out in 94'

- Ilmatic came out in 94'

- Only Built 4 Cuban Linx came out in 95'

- The Infamous came out in 95'

- Reasonable Doubt came out in 96'

So what you mean NYC had only a 4 year run in hiphop?!?!

The current New York scene is wack to average, Fabolous & Smoke DZA are doing their thing.

But if Joe buddens, Red Cafe, Maino, French Montana, Uncle murder and Cory gunz the best what NYC has to offer? Then the future of NYC rap is lost...

yes and no...it does change somewhat but hella people from the north east have moved/have summer homes down south though. The culture changes after NC but

A) its still technically the east coast
B) they are influenced by the east coast

The popularity of the NBA in cities like miami and atlanta comes from the east coast because they are not basketball hubs. But now with AAU hella guys are coming out of the south in atlanta suburbs now because they have been influenced by the east coast basketball culture. Even in music the popularity of Jay Z is huge because the south now is influenced by the east coast. Hov packed venues larger than some hometown southern artists could in tour stops outside miami and tampa.

and yes wayne can sell out a venue up north and ye could sell out a venue out west it goes all diffrent ways. And few nyc niggas can even tour at all but again niggas wanna say the south or west or midwest is winning but how many niggas can leave their area and get large scale crowds in another region?

I luv where I'm from I rep Da Boot jus like most people luv dey hood. That being said, i find it ridiculous almost disrespectful that people are trying to claim MIA ain't the South. I find it more comical that people tryin to claim its an east coast city. First off the I-95 theory makes no sense just as you wouldn't consider Savannah, Ga (one of the most culturally southern cities)to be the east coast even tho 95 run thru it, shit I use I-10 almost daily but Louisiana ain't part of the West coast. Second Miami is one of the most culturally diverse cities partly due to its location now THAT IS one similarity it has to New York but niccas from Nyc & MIA are nothing alike you as any nicca in da 305 where they reside & see if anyone says the east coast but rather the dirty south. So even if a buncha cats from Ny & Nj moved there so did people from other places. While it may not be the traditional southern city u can't deny its a southern city. From the gold teeth & big cars w/big rims to back when Luke & the whole bounce scene was jumping which directly influenced N.O. bounce nobody was claiming MIA but the south. San Diego is close to Mexico & they have a big influence there but u wouldnt say they not the West coast so y is this any different?

you bring up some good points however nobody said MIA was not part of the south we were just saying it is literally on the east coast. It is in the south eastern United states and is LITERALLY on the east coast. San Deigo is on the literal west coast of the united states. My point was if niggas call the west cost a 1,000 plus mile strip of coast but that is just as same as the 1,000 mile east coast. Regardless of culture savannah and miami are on the east coast literally you cannot deny it. 20th century jargon has associated the east coast with the north east, but the east coast goes from Newfoundland Canada to the florida keys.

This is the map of slave states:

Maryland and DC had slaves but they aren't considered part of the South cuz they aren't below the Mason Dixon line.

.

NY had slaves also.

True.
FL has more coastline on the East Coast than any other state also.

Florida has always been a little different than the rest of the south.

Sure u have some of the down south living especially when "Dirty South" became cool but honestly the south (whites especially) never really claimed Florida and the east coast never did either.
