I hear what u saying but this is what a previous poster said & I quote "I'm not convinced that Florida is in the South music wise. The I-95 runs through Miami and it's a music wise. So I'm not disputing the fact that Florida is LITERALLY on da east coast that's obvious but the underlying issue is the posters subtly implying that NYC is somewhat responsible for the Miami sound/success. Like Nyc is winning vicariously cuz of Miami being on rite now. Let's also be clear when we talk about "Miami" we really are talking about "ROSS" cuz nobody ever made the (east coast influence argument) about Trick Daddy, Trina, Pitbull, Jacki-O or Flo-Rida or anybody else in Florida/Miami for that matter. Which brings me to my next point Miami is an international city with influences from all over the world but it has a Miami Sound & Culture ie. Pitbull & Flo-Rida etc. With Ross pioneering in a new sound which to me is more reminiscent of an 8ball(Suave House) rather than an east coast artist. Just like where I live around the Lafayette area it is nothing like North Louisiana or typically "Southern" rather a Cajun/Creole culture but nobody disputes South Louisiana being part of the south, ironically we are very similar to Florida in culture, geography & accent. So last its a well known fact in the U.S. that the east coast typically refers to the North East coast & N.C. on down is the south so why the sudden change? Plus the West coast is almost always used in reference to Cali. maybe even Vegas While Seattle & Portland etc. would fall under the Pacific Northwest category. Also most of Florida is on the Gulf Coast. So all I'm saying is that the South in itself is diverse & while MIA mite not be "TYPICALLY" southern it is still a very diverse International Southern City PERIOD..

I'm from tampa and ft. lauderdale and I got to school in ft. myers....with that being said I definitely know what's hot down here. buddy has a point when he says that Miami does have a north city vibe due to the influx of jewish people and cubans. I hate to admit it but its true. On the other hand tho, the streets are the streets and these niggas in Tampa, Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Miami, Tallahasse, and Orlando don't listen to northern sh*t. Its the definition of a East Coast city. If you step out on Miami beach your in the Atlantic ocean and there's no history of Miami being part of the dirty south. They didnt fight any Civil War battles there, didnt have slaves, and everything from the sports teams to the Amtrak line are part of the East.

Yeah it's geographically in the South, so are Phoenix and LA. Yeah musicians like Luke and Trick Daddy make southern music. Doesnt mean its not an East Coast city. We got rappers in DC who make Southern music. There's nothing country about Miami when compared to Jacksonville or Tallahassee.

No doubt that most of the non-Caribbean Black people in Miami identify with the South over the North East. Thats probably cuz they have family from the real Dirty South: GA, MS, TN, SC.
