So Michael Eric Dyson and Cornel West are at it again...

Cmon son. I like both these guys but Dyson is clearly only defending Obams by discrediting Dr West. The criticism of Obama from Dr West is definitely justified being he hasn't done much of anything for niggaz and refuses to take a real stand on the racial injustices like police brutality. Obama ran on changing racism, but when Ferguson was burning he was across the world tweeting out Robin Williams condolences smh. In other words, he stays away from controversial race topics primarily so he won't piss off the white privileged portion of america that HATES him. Stop negro.

Atleast Cornel West understands what Obama's doing, which is smooth talking niggaz into thinking he gives a fuck about us which is CLEARLY not the case.

I applaud Michael Eric Dyson for speaking out on the Cornel West issue.

Too often we sit back and allow diatribe to permeate the public.

lolwut?

Dr. West's criticism is legit. but instead of exploring them, we're in here trying to discredit the brother.

Cornel West is absolutely correct

Where was his great prophetic critiques against power, and why when all these things were happening in the 90s was he more interested in having access to the White House and hanging out with Bill till late in the night? He's full of more shit than a Christmas turkey. Respectfully.

You don't know what you are talking about. West was friendly with the Clintons at one time, but broke with them over Bill's policies, especially welfare reform. Look it up.

So the attacks from Cornel West on Obama have not gone from merelycritical to now more personal and scathing over the last few years? You're going to say that with a straight face?

You are changing the subject. You said something about West and Bill Clinton, and I pointed out that you are incorrect. You should acknowledge that you were wrong.

But we can talk about this too. West has become more scathing, but I don't think it is personal, and I certainly don't think it is about any damn inauguration tickets (which you mentioned a few posts back).

As I mentioned on the first page, West is first and foremost about speaking truth to power. (I'm like that too, and that's partly why I feel an affinity with him.) And he is also against the tendency of some black intellectuals and leaders to soft-pedal their criticisms of blacks in positions of power (if they are not actually supportive of them) because they're black, even though they're not really good for black or poor people. (He wrote about this way back in Race Matters (1993).) So holding firm in his criticism of Obama is supremely important to him, and these facts explain why.

No sir. He has gotten quite personal. He attacked Obama's blackness and he referred to MED, MHP and others as "boot lickers". He dead wrong for that.

"There's a difference between criticism and ad hominem"- MED and he's right.

jaxn;7979357 said:
divide and conquer. If MED has a problem with West, why not have a discussion in private instead of airing this nonsense in the public?

He said he has attempted a few times to settle this privately and Dr. West is uninterested. He also said he proposed a sit down between the two of them and Obama and West said no to that as well.

Assuming MED isn't lying West left him no choice.

He been stopped doing that years ago once he was clearly sure he had black peoples undying loyalty

MSNBC is a wing of the Democratic Party the same as FOX is for the Republicans, it is no surprise then that the number of Black hosts on MSNBC increased, to include no less, Melissa Harris-Perry, Al Sharpton and Michael Eric Dyson. West disagrees with taking a position where you will be expected to insulate the president from criticism.

Looking at it from Dr. West position I know he has to be pissed he helped the careers of MED and MHP and now they both have come out attacking him. Truthfully, he may have attacked them first but they have a national stage and he doesn't.

Also take into account that West and Obama both used to be regulars at Jeremiah Wright's church. So they might have a much deeper personal history than we are acknowledging here. Obama was forced to politically disassociate from Wright after the whole "God Damn America" fiasco (right wing bloggers were not remiss in connecting Dr. West with that church as well).

Its quite the web the black intelligentsia

Most of that shit either applies to all minority groups or the entire country aka the affordable care act although I'm not gonna pretend like it would have even been possible to give black people anything at the exclusion of another group(affirmative action benefits more white women than black people). I thought you would have mentioned the executive order to reduce the sentencing disparity between crack and cocaine. The war on drugs and the prison system are the two biggest contributors to the destruction of the black family structure and ultimately the black community.

Attorney General Eric Holder wants to reduce mandatory minimums for drug dealers.

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/artic...educe-sentences-for-nonviolent-drug-offenders

Attorney General Eric Holder testified Thursday in front of the U.S. Sentencing Commission in support of a proposal to reduce prison sentences for low-level drug trafficking crimes. The goal of the proposal is to address the outsized prison population in the United States.

The measure would reduce the base offense and sentencing associated with substance quantities involved in drug dealing crimes, reducing the average sentence by 11 months. The change would impact almost 70 percent of all drug trafficking offenders, as many who are imprisoned for such offenses are nonviolent criminals.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder is endorsing a proposal that would result in shorter prison sentences for many nonviolent drug traffickers, saying the change would rein in bloated federal prison costs and create a fairer criminal justice system.

Holder was to appear Thursday before the U.S. Sentencing Commission, where he was scheduled to announce his support for a commission proposal to lower the guideline penalties for certain drug crimes.

Absolutely NOTHING he does has or will benefit black people?
