On February 27, 2014, President Obama launched My Brother’s Keeper, a White House initiative focused on young men of color. This public-private partnership takes a “collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to build ladders of opportunity and unlock the full potential of boys and young men of color.”

My Brother’s Keeper Program Grows to Include More Impoverished Minorities

President Obama will announce on Monday that 60 of the nation’s largest school districts are joining his initiative to improve the educational futures of young African-American and Hispanic boys, beginning in preschool and extending through high school graduation.

The districts, which represent about 40 percent of all African-American and Hispanic boys living below the poverty line, have committed to expand quality preschool access; track data on black and Hispanic boys so educators can intervene as soon as signs of struggle emerge; increase the number of boys of color who take gifted, honors or Advanced Placement courses and exams; work to reduce the number of minority boys who are suspended or expelled; and increase graduation rates among African-American and Hispanic boys.

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced an initiative he said will give African-American students greater access "to a complete and competitive education from the time they're born all through the time they get a career."

Speaking Wednesday night at a National Urban League gathering in New Orleans, Obama said he has issued an executive order establishing the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, saying, "A higher education in a 21st century cannot be a luxury. It is a vital necessity that every American should be able to afford," he said.

He added that his administration is "pushing all colleges and universities" to cut their costs.

CBC & Black Business Leaders Meet With President Obama
http://aaenvironment.blogspot.com/2012/01/cbc-black-business-leaders-meet-with.html

In December, Chairman Emanuel Cleaver led a discussion with African American business leaders and President Barack Obama.

The first of its kind, the meeting served as an opportunity to discuss job creation recommendations and cultivate stronger working relationships within the African American business community, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Administration.

Thanks to Obamacare, 7.8 Million African-Americans Now Have Access to More Health Care Services
http://minorities.affordablehealthi...mericans-access-health-care.html#.VTaAffnF9qU

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, has enabled more Americans to be covered by health care insurance. It also provides more free health care services that will help keep people healthy, such as mammograms and flu shots. As a result, an estimated 7.8 million African-Americans now have access to these important health care services.

My back burner theory was that he was going to do some monumental shit when he leaves the white house for the black people and dip out. hahaha that would be some trill shit though.

Shit ain't peaches-n-cream

but to say Obama has not done NOTHING to help the black community?

Absolutely NOTHING he does has or will benefit black people?

That's just a blatant lie.

And then marginalized his efforts when your statement is proven to be a lie.

Yeah, I'll like to know what's motivating you?

Obama's done a few good things. Just like I'm sure Bush did some things for black ppl. But he is nowhere NEAR the guy he campaigned himself as. Change? Hope? The only HOPING niggaz is doing is HOPING we don't get shot by damn racist police today. Obama had a moment where he could've seriously challenged police departments, across america, on their racist incentives. But instead he played it safe and looked the other way. Meanwhile, the DOJ's conducting these meaningless investigations while cops is sendin police dogs to rip niggaz flesh off while handcuffed. White America is literally taunting this nigga while he still tryna play it cool

See this the shit I'm talking about......

So racist cops shooting unarmed black people

And you guys convinced yourselves or had someone else convince you

Obama should be held accountable for this??

:-w

You can't have a reasonable ,intelligent, and constructive conversation with someone with this type of rationale

Who said that?

As the leader of the free world, and race lecturer, is it wrong to expect this nigga to at least show his face in Ferguson? I mean there was literally a race war between cops & niggaz

First, Be the change you want. If you expect anything from government you'll be disappointed.

Half way through the new republic article, it's one black man taking down another for white entertainment.

It took me a whole day to get halfway through. I suspect I'll have completed it by today's end. When he started talking about how West was no longer a great writer and then provided that deconstructionist style criticism of how writing can be so much more taxing then eloquent speech...I was like "oooouch". Not only because it's true, but because it seemed unnecessary. Aside from that, I don't think he's off base. It's very easy for West to get on a soapbox and talk shit from the safety of being completely ignorant of all the nuances of politics and economics. One of his main issues with Obama has been the lack of assistance to poor people. To me, it just seems so very cheap and easy to say "do something for the people in poverty." That's a buzz word that garners almost universal acclaim from everyone listening. Who doesn't want to help poor people? I've never heard him, nor Tavis for that matter, giving concrete solutions as to how to solve these problems without alienating the rest of population. You can't just throw up programs to help the poverty without funding it some how. There are tonnes of moving parts that have to be considered, which guys like these don't have to deal with before, during or AFTER they propose the solutions. They are both jealous and petty.

I don't disagree, but not a fan of MED writing this, doesn't sit well with me. The man wrote you a letter of recommendation, even if he's gone senile, let it be.

I couldn't help but think of this considering the topic, as well as your avi. Sometimes, it just comes to this.

I don't look at any one these "intellectuals" as leaders, they not deities to me, they'll just disappoint you.

Malcolm had his reasons, I disagree with airing out another man public like that.

Man the more I read some of y'alls posts in threads like these, the more I start beginning to think like Tommy Sotomayor lol. I don't wanna think like Tommy Sotomayor.

So let me get this right....

Obama who happens to be the 1st Black president, who happens to have more death threats on his life than any of his predecessors.....did not show up to "a race war between cops & niggaz"??

And that's your beef with him?

But hes the leader of free world. He ran his campaign on fixing race relations. Black ppl are THE reason he's in office. If there was white girls or gays being murdered almost everyday I'm assuming he'd do more than send Eric Holder to "ease tensions". You niggaz be giving Obama too many passes. Ferguson's literally on fire, the KKK threatening protestors while the cops telling media they can't film any of it. Yet Obama across the world tweeting about Robin Williams smh

Let me guess, "but he ain't the president of black ppl'

Obama ain't the supernigga but he can be more vocal than he actually is. He had his moments though, the Skip Gates fiasco, Trayvon Martin, he not completely silent on race relations and as preside the cannot allow himself to be preoccupied with it either.

Lmao the majority of those are initiatives not bills, so when he leaves office those initiatives are leaving with him. And have you even seen anybody who is in one of those programs I doubt they even exist, it's like raffle tickets that people sell they say somebody going to receive a prize but you never see who

And for all you niggas talkin that he's the president of all America shit, I better not hear you asking the next president what are they going to do for black people because they are the president of all America

Yes, West did complain about not getting inauguration tickets, but his wariness of Obama precedes that...

Second, Dyson's use of The New Republic to attack West is problematic since this was same magazine that published Wieseltier' scandalous attack on West nearly 20 years ago.
but to be fair, both these points were acknowledged in the article.

A Talented One;7978197 said:
Moreover, West is all about speaking truth to power, and has been for a long time. So his critique of Obama is principled, not personal.
eh, some of the starfucking cited undermines this.

100% agree

This is so pointless.

Obama has done some good and some terrible things. One of my biggest issues with him is his refusal to show restraint using war time powers. Shit it's been 14 years since 9/11 - and there is a perpetual war because the U.S. isn't fighting a country just extremists. He didn't close Guatanamo, he didn't stop spying on US citizens, he's used drones to maime thousands in Waziristan (sp?), he's killed two U.S. citizens with drones who weren't imminent threats rather than capturing them.

These are the types of things Dr. West has criticized Obama for. They are legitimate criticisms but then he also goes on tangents.

West is too smart to resort to name calling, he could've made the same points i did without resorting to stupidity.

On the domestic front, I don't expect any programs from gov, so you can save me with the blood clot crying.
