Teaching blacks to survive and thrive in capitalism should be the focus of black intellectuals not analyzing flawed systems like Marxism and trying to juxtapose it with black theology. That's what Mr west does and it's a waste

I dont think capitalism in and of itself leads to or results from systematic racism....any type of centralized power on any level help facilitate racism if it is present
However american capitalism is so intertwined with systemic racism in its distant historical origins and contemporary history that it would be a mistake for any one to try to separate them when trying to solve poverty, close the income, wealth gap between blk americans and others
Blk entrepreneurship is good and all...but its not a tide that is going to lift every boat
At the end of the day those in control of most the capital and resources are not blk and couldnt care less about our plight
Take for instance, ppl always ask why more blk ppl dont open more beauty supply stores
What no one likes to talk about is how there are only four central distributors serving beauty supply stores in the country and these Korean owned distributors have been knoediscriminate against blk store owners in order to maintain their monopoly in the market
Not to mention how hard it is to secure the capital to start a business for blks
Im not saying lets just give it, but adapting is not a long term solution
you know, i don't think anyone would say West DIDN'T deserve tickets. but if you let it come off like you're mad a working class guy got them and you didn't...A Talented One;7987563 said:And West was justifiably upset because of the tickets, and not because he was somehow 'better' than people who did get tickets. He did 65 campaign events for Obama. 65.
i would like to point out that if West did, as stated in his book, shout out Snoop Dogg in public as a "lyrical genius," then he already assassinated his own characterjono;7987646 said:In other, and really more important news...Dr. West responded via Facebook post:

RACISM cannot be removed from capitalism because the mentality racism springs from is deeply part of human nature poverty also cannot be solved only limited, closing the income gap between blacks and whites is a pipe dream because whites are the majority population and will therefore remain comfortable in their position of power for some time and on top of that they are in the correct positions to maintain power
with these stone cold facts being what they are each population within the nation have to equip themselves with what is needed to compete with the other races. We must adapt or die or stay in the inferior economic and social position we are in. Only by using the benefits of capitalism can we as a group make a better future for ourselves and it's not just starting companies, there is a whole mindset change we have to under go. decades of liberalism has literally destroyed the black race. we should not be interested in lifting every boat, only our boat. in that one phase you typified one of the problems with black people
The Koreans have a monopoly because we allow them to have one.

however, the working class guy simply isn't in a position to do what West did for Obama, but still might deserve tickets on a different level. note that Dyson makes this point about it in the big piece:A Talented One;7989863 said:It wasn't the fact that he was working class; it was that he could not have done for Obama what West did (i.e. speak at so many campaign events).
if you're attacking Obama from the left, you might want to concede that a bellman getting a ticket to a presidential inauguration isn't the most terrible injustice in the world. In a 2011 interview with Chris Hedges on Truthdig that appeared under the headline “The Obama Deception: Why Cornel West Went Ballistic,” West recalled his indignation during the Inauguration, when he arrived at his Washington hotel with his mother, and she noted that the bellman had a ticket to the event but not her son. “I couldn’t get a ticket for my mother and my brother,” West said. “We drive into the hotel and the guy who picks up my bags from the hotel has a ticket to the inauguration. My mom says, ‘That’s something that this dear brother can get a ticket and you can’t get one, honey, all the work you did for him from Iowa.’” Thus the left-wing critic found it unjust that the workingman and not the professor had a ticket to the inauguration. Only in a world where bankers and other fat cats greedily gobble rewards meant for everyday citizens would such a reversal appear unfair. J.P. Morgan might have been mad; Karl Marx would have been ecstatic.

"TF that's wrong with me" might be that i still do not agree with what you're saying? and i'm quoting Dyson in making the point that West's help, while great, may not have been the actual, or best, consideration in defining who got tickets?A Talented One;7994703 said:TF is wrong with you. This quote from Dyson is saying exactly what I am denying: that West was upset that a working class person got tickets while he -- an elite professor -- didn't.
