good ass thread

jay elect - underground hero: now a days new underground heroes with songs as big as "exhibit C" are hard to find. Dudes spitting what jay elect is spitting is rare. He's cool with the curren$ys and the mos defs, he should be on some every 3 month mixtape shit leading to an album at the start of 2011. right when exhibit c hit number 1 on itunes, i'd have him and just blaze dropped a 15 song tape with exhibit c was the single. I'd promote it for a while, online where his audience thrives while the single keeps bumping on radio airplay. i'd let everyone freestyle off the beat, as it only adds to his creditablity and after about two months of noise, hit them with a collabo with diddy, incliuding a video showing his versatility. he'd have an album atleast 3-5 weeks after

J.Cole - The next Jay/nas: the nigga has the audience in place thanks to drake, he has the skills and he has a TEAM of all stars with jay, kanye, melanie fiona, beyonce, no i.d., wale, cudi, et.c he could be associated with. maybe he's too cool to do that? HELL NO...we're pushing you more than just tours...whenever jay has a video, your in it. when kanye needs a guest verse, your there. he'd be slowly promoted but atleast visible.

Wiz - Keep doing what he's doing: dude is already on the right track

Big Krit - "The realest nigga of the south": is he the realest? I don't know. Will he be contested by any artist feeling threatened? Of course. But if you have radio personalities adressing him of that name like how they call T.I. the king, it will catch on weather true or not. I'd hit a new mixtape thats atleast on par with "K.R.I.T. wuz here" and have him moving up towards shows with south legends like bun b, face, and anybody else he could tour with. I'd give him a better southern radio song then "country shit", and have that be for the radios. But his real music would be the hook. Like "children of the world", i'd have that on MTV jams and MTV 2, rather just youtube. He';d get probably the slowest progression since his career didn't really start blowing until this year

If I was Jay though I would throw J. Cole on a nationwide tour with me. I think J. Cole has a decent enough fanbase to attract his fans out, and he would double his fan base by doing that.

Come off the Tour, finish up the album, drop that shit two months after the tour.

and if I was Wiz i would have jumped on that Drake Tour.

agreed with the Big Kritt one.

I would try to get a track with Outkast that sounds like early outkast shit. Cuz some of Kritts track sound like outkast shit.

I would also tell him keep pushing hard on the put Missisipi on the map thing. Get David Banner to produce one or two cuts. I dont know if any of these would help him move units but I think it would be a good look for him if he did those things

How would yall go about breaking a new artist, keeping in mind this is a business and the objective is to sell albums. How would yall go about breaking these artists and getting them the shine they deserve?

Jay Electronica-jay electronica would be on a record with kanye and mos def. possibly john legend on the hook produced by no i.d. after that was done id more than likely get him in a few interviews and release a 9 track mixtape

J Cole-j.cole would have a jay guest appearance and he would outshine jigga to get people talking. after that hed have a song with wiz and trey songz to attract a female fanbase or feed the one he already has

Nipsey-nipsey just gonna keep goin with his cali shit but get a few cuts from ski beatz and grind it out doin shows

Wiz-just gotta keep doin what he doin

Big Krit-get mississippi on his side, doin free shit all through there, then he goes on to put hometown hero out as a single

etc

Add on to some rappers if you feel like

yeah son........

the truth is there is no exact science as to why some artists are more succesful than others

This is exactly why i made this thread, niggas oversimplify shit and make it seem like it's a science. A superproducer doesn't guarantee a hit or success and neither does a cosign, being is star and timing is something that cannot be coached.

J Cole needs to hop on Kanye's Dick if he wants to blow(no homo). He needs a Kid Cudi and a Lupe Collab too.

Nipsey Hussle needs to fuck wit Dre and Snoop Dogg ASAP.

Jay Electronica- This one's difficutlt as I don't think J-Elect cares about all of the excess that comes with the music. He'd rather be heard than seen, so one would have to be real creative with handling his music. He doesn't release a lot of music, so it'd be more of a matter to getting what he does have to a larger audience. With him, I'd just launch a huge "Who is Jay Electronica campaign?" It would start on the net with banners on sites where clicking the link takes you to a music page. I would expand on this by releasing a promotional tape with songs of his that have caught on the most w/ his fans base. It would be available on iTunes. Then there'd be a release of an "Exhibit C' video that didn't feature Jay Electronica just a creative visual that really showcases the song.

J Cole- He's the easiest off the list to market and promote. With him, I wouldn't flood the game with mixtapes. I'd take it back to the days of the old school and let him rock some R&B/Soul guest spots on records from artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J., John Legend, Melanie Fiona, Marsha Ambrosious, Jill Scott etc. In the mean time, I'd get him to drop some street joints that lead up to the album. It's kind of like Diddy did w/ Ma$e, Biggie and Black Rob back in the day.

Nipsey- I would try to establish him as a force on the West w/o him actually doing music w/ Snoop, Cube, Dre, Quik or any of the legends so that it wouldn't be preconceived that he was somehow in their shadow trying to piggyback. It'd be all about getting him fresh Westcoast sound, but adding touches of Down South flavor with some touches of East Coast. I think that's where The Game kind of boxed himself in. When he first came out, people were kind of like he wasn't West Coast enough. Then, Doctor's Advocate had other critics like it was too West Coast. With Nipsey, it would be all about balance.

Wiz- He's a versatile enough artist to where he could do a straight up rap record or do something that's pop influenced. I think the mixtapes would be the best route to go leading into the album. He's an artist that I could actually see doing a Justin Beiber remix that wouldn't come off awkward.

Big Krit- With him it would be all about showcasing Big Krit. I think he has an advantage on the other artists in that I think he already has a winning sound that could very well blow up in the mainstream. I'd push "Country" and "Moon & Stars" even though they are from his independent album. I think that those songs have potential to blow up with nice visuals. They would be dope introductions of Krit.

Jay Electronica- I would have him do shows with more established artists so that way he can get his name out there some more. I would have him release a massive mixtape with a tough street single and then have him continue to tour and promote the record, while doing collabos with the likes of Nas, Jada, Wayne, Jeezy, Game and Lupe, that way you cover all coasts, and have him do R&B collabos with Chrisette Michele and Jazmine Sullivan and Eryka Badu to tap into that neo soul market and with the type of artist he is he would fit right in on a song with them. Then once his buzz is at a certain peak then you set a release date for the album say late 2011-early 2012, you drop another street single and then the main lead off single and hope for the best.

Oh I would have him work with other up coming artist like J Cole, Wiz, and Vado.

This thread was created out of anger 'caused by the IC's criticism of Jay-Z's handling of J.Cole's career thus far. Carry on.
