No he wasn't....smh

and yeah pop, doc rivers, phil jackson (eventhough i dont think he's all that great), jerry solan (eventhough he dont coach anymore) and Thidbeaux is doing a good job in chi this season. and lets remember pop always had talent in the spurs way before duncan got there...d.robinson, s.elliott...spurs always had a squad let's not act like all great coaches didnt have great players on their squad now

how do praise p.jackson but try to take way from doc rivers in the same sentence???

Wait..............So you're saying Doc Rivers, after a 30 and 20 win seasons was not on his way to being fired if KG and Ray didn't get there? Negative

Lmao @ doc rivers......dude was on the verge of getting them papers but gets kg and Jesus now he's a great coach?

What proof is there he was "on the verge" of getting fired. People love making things up. If you are on the verge, he wouldve been fired. Of course ANY coach would get fired with no talent. But unlike people commenting, i actually watched those teams, and they were rebuilding. But they always played hard. Thats the judge of a good coach. Can you make your players better regardless of circumstances. It wasnt Docs fault G. Hill wasnt healthy all those years in orlando.

How can people say something was gonna happen that never did? All that coulda shoulda woulda is for the birds. You need good coaching and good players to win in this league. Nobody wins without both

The difference is, you dont see what happens outside the game, at practice, in team meetings. Danny ainge knew that, and has even commented on it. He wasnt planning on firing doc. They had a plan going in, and they would stick to it. Stock talent and trade for superstars. Make their run. They said that b4 even getting KG

cuz i live in boston and there was never any comments about doc rivers getting fired..if fact if you were in boston you would know that they were trying to keep PP for the youngth movement..the whole plan was to get either durant or oden....so yeah doc rivers was very much still gonna be the coach...

Maybe you're right about him not about to get fired that upcoming year, but I'm not hearing an argument about him being an elite coach.

Look at his resume before the Big 3 --

Full seasons at Orlando: 41 wins, 43, 44, 42 and 45. First year he missed the playoffs, the rest he never made it out of the first round.

Boston 33 and 24 wins.

He was never an elite head coach before KG and Ray got there.

Nate is just a good a coach as Doc minus the 3 h.o.f's fallin in his lap. Nate has had to deal wit injuries and he had Durant but the franchise was goin in the toilet. Nate and Doc are both good coaches and on the same level to me.

I can agree with this. Nate isn't a bad coach at all. He just ended up with a team that stay getting hurt.

simple there's no good coach..or any coach you will list that doesnt or didnt have great players to coach

look at pat riley, look at phil jackson..look at all the coaches that are getting named now....u need great players...the only two coaches that you could name that reallly didnt always have the best talent

is don nelson and lenny wilksons....all coaches had great players

and the year doc was in orlando he only had tracy mcgrady and that wasnt for his whole coaching years in orl either

how's he not a good coach..just cuz you have great players doesnt mean they are/ you are gonna win..look at the heat now

he got kg, allen and pp to buy into what he was doing...and look who was on his coaching staff...dude that's coaching chi-town now....

Rivers out coach phil jackson's ass in the finals....made jackson the next coming season stress defense more.....he's a good coach, the players say it all the time.

Not at all am I saying you don't need a superstar or two, I'm just saying he done enough head coaching before his Big 3 to show how good or bad he was.

Phil got to Chicago he already had MJ and Pippen and got them over the hump. And the Lakers had all them All Stars before he got there and couldn't do anything.

Pop practically always had David and Duncan since he got there. I think he drafted Duncan a year or two into his term. The Spurs won 60 games before he got there and he eventually got them boys over the hump to a title.

Doc didn't change teams like they did. He needed to assemble a monster line up after he was winning 20 and 30 games with Boston in by far the worst division in the NBA.

Phil and Pop took teams already in place that couldn't get anywhere and put them over the hump. Doc didn't do that.
