C/S this thread, I been saying this shit for awhile now. Nobody hears me when I say it, but since the great H-Rap says it, it will actually get through some of you niggas heads!!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

but on the real

i fee that every quarter million is an achievement

back in the day they used to say once you move past gold then you moved past your core fanbase,
bow i think once you move past 300k you went past your core fanbase

Them niggas want the fame. some of these dues have dreams that they are the next Jay. so it's not till after some failures that they realize they need to fall back and do what's best for them instead of doing what they think will make them a star and rich. Most guys that are indy are folks who been in the game for a minute and understand the traps of being on a major. while a youngster sees getting on 106 park, touring with rihanna, and the BET awards as what they want.

the chain & roc affect

so many dudes came up watchin rappers throw up pendants and be flashy in tv,
as much as they want to be independent and make music with integrity, some want even more to live what they seen as children

Hiphop is the new blues music. This forum alone proves that point if not for Pac & Big , Em Jay and Ross threads this place would be empty. The new artist is barely noteworthy if not for a catchy single or controversy we wouldn't give a damn about these new niggas. To answer the question I cosign 100% platinum is a thing of the past.

say it isnt so

no one wants to give new dudes a chance???

everyone is sheep and talk about the same thing week in and week out???

the board is filled with interns/stans/zombies who are forced to make the same threads over and over???

The most popular rappers will always get the most threads, just like a HipHop magazine wil have articles on the most popular rappers.

I've seen plenty J.Cole threads, Big Sean threads, Wale threads, Kendrick Lamar threads, and last month it was Odd Future & Kreayshawn threads.

Not to go to far off topic but I just noticed something amazing: 2002 was the last great year for New York..Nas had just dropped Stillmatic at the beginning of 2002 and then Lost Tapes dropped, and then Godson dropped....plus Wu-Tang dropped 15 projects from their camp...Jigga dropped that double album and Eve was getting love. I think "Hey Ma" ruled that Summer.....damn what happened to NY????

I don't think platinum is dead, i think it's the result of shitty raps and oversaturation of raps. These country niggas and rock niggas are still selling albums, you just don't see Taylor Swift dropping mixtapes watering down country.

trends move in cycles. the 00's copied the 80's .
folks wanted simplicity and excess.
the souf had jus what the dr ordered.
the north was the dr sellin old medicine who occasionally snuck out and tried to sell the competition's medicine,
only to admit defeat and fully become a salesman of the other medicine

Saying "dead" is a little dramatic a better way to put it would be to say "highly unobtainable".

I co-sign:

HipHop is pretty much the only genre that uses Mixtapes the way they do, I mean this guy Game just released a double mix-tape and now he's dropping another mix tape before his album...it is oversaturation and it kills a lot of the excitement of purchasing new music from an artist.

JayZ has never abused the mix tape game and as a result his album releases are seen as "events" in the industry while Wayne has abused the mix tape game so badly that people are longing for him to go back to his mix-tape flavor more than they desire C4.

Sade still goes plat. If these artist would build a brand, and drop consistent music, it would still be a reality for some of them.

Come on fam' Sade is a queen and she's one of a kind, you can create a rapper with no talent in a boardroom and sell him to the masses.

There hasn't been a platinum selling West-Coast rapper in over 5 years unless you count the Black eyed Peas......

The labels don't have the patience to build brands, they want hot singles and that's why the genre is the way it is.

1st off people act like artist were selling 1 million easy back in the day , check the sales it wasn't that many rappers selling 1 million. 2nd platinum is not sales its records shipped , shipping 1 million is easier then selling 1 million,. 3rd albums sales are up from 2010 , so there no excuses for flopping compared to last year
