thanks i already know that that why is said lover live , "Lovers Live debuted and peaked at number ten on the U.S. Billboard 200, and became Sade's first album to miss the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on 7 March 2002 with U.S. sales of 562,000 copies"

The most popular rappers will always get the most threads, just like a HipHop magazine wil have articles on the most popular rappers.

I've seen plenty J.Cole threads, Big Sean threads, Wale threads, Kendrick Lamar threads, and last month it was Odd Future & Kreayshawn threads.

Not to go to far off topic but I just noticed something amazing: 2002 was the last great year for New York..Nas had just dropped Stillmatic at the beginning of 2002 and then Lost Tapes dropped, and then Godson dropped....plus Wu-Tang dropped 15 projects from their camp...Jigga dropped that double album and Eve was getting love. I think "Hey Ma" ruled that Summer.....damn what happened to NY????

stillmatic didn't come out in 2002. i got that cd for xmas 2001.

Opie was talm' bout how Wiz Khalifah will never be as good an artist as Chingy because he can't go platinum like Chingy did.

It's 2011.

In the calendar year 2010 only 2 HipHop artists went platinum (Drake & Emenim) the white boy and the Jew.

Since then Nicky Minaj and Kanye West have reached platinum status, which makes it only 4 platinum HipHop artists in almost two years that sold a Millie...all pop-tarts.

Stop acting like it's 2002, Gold is the new Platinum and 250,000 is Silver.

I don't really think Ye's MBDTF was pop at all....he was as rebellious as you can get with that album. This nigga had a cover of him and a armless bitch..both naked. 6 different controversial covers, one with a sword in his head. That so appalled track had people walking around saying "dirty white bitches" and made a anthem for douche bags (stupid but just shows how he didn't give a fuck), and Devil in a Red Dress is a timeless classic. The only song from that album that got heavy radio play was "All of the Lights". All of that and he still went Plat, I can't imagine any artist doing shit like that any time soon. Ye is far...and I mean FAR from a DMX but it seems like he is the only "no holds barred" artist of this generation ...which is pretty sad.

undercover defense of Rick Ross sales thread

It would be a better defense for 50cent who failed to reach Gold with his last album "BISD".

In order for an album to go platinum in 2011 a rapper would need to cater his music towards people like you.

Some artists consistently sell on average 600,000 copies of their solo releases and other artists go from 8 million sold in 2003 to 480,000 sold in 2009. :(

Get Rich or Die = 8 million

The Massacre = 5 million

Curtis = 1 million

Before I suck Destruct = 480,000

Black Tragic = Shelved indefinitely

Damn Homie :(

It dropped 13 days before 2002 on December 18th 2001 which is why I said the beginning of 2002.

the issue with rap music is it's not respected by "Consumers" as much as many other genres

in the 90's rap music was at it's peak, people paid hard earn money to cop a 2pac album, so he could go 6 times plat in 3 months

other genres, such as rock, dance, country are doing better than rap music sales-wise

the quality of rap music has gone downhill, you have rappers recording music in bedrooms, also over saturation is an issue

and then you have the issue of rappers being able to make hit single, but the rest of the material on the album sucking

rappers need to up there game and start thinking about quality and seeing where they stand as artists and what "new sound" they can bring to the table....

rap music in terms of record sales is dying quicker than other genres.....

Really? I guess the year after, 2003, the colossal Get Rich or Die Trying didn't release from a NY rapper. The Black Album, which received much higher praise than that garbage double disc, also was delivered by a NY rapper. Along with Beg For Mercy. Eve isn't even from NY, so I don't know why she was mentioned. Diplomatic Immunity did drop in 2003 from a NY based rap team. NY was still doing it big in 03.

Fat Joe dosent really make music that can cross-over and his sales reflect that, he does make some good music tho'.

You can't compare C3 with a Rock album, we have to wait for C4 to really judge wise.

50Cent has been going downhill his entire career, many artists sell equal amounts from year to year or increase their sales from one year to the next, 50Cent is the only artist in the History of rap music that has lost half or more fans with each album he drops...it's almost painful to watch.

If he drops another album it will sell 200,000 or less based on his pattern of self destruction

But if you think about it.....3 platinum albums is a good career for a artist if you look at it sales wise. In my case, I don't care about sales and look at 50's career as disappointing because I judge the music and in my opinion , all of his albums after GRODT are ass. Also, I agree with L3NU... platinum rappers aren't dead, they're just a endangered species.

well when you start your career with as much pandemonium as he did there's nowhere to go but downhill.

but its true about lil wayne that gay song how to love just might get him another million week. at least 400,000 first week is my prediction

and the fat joe album im talkin about did have a crossover hit "i wont tell" i was surprised at the time at the numbers it did. 45k was a complete failure back then, now its neither here nor there. thats how fucked the sales have gotten and its sad but i partake in the downloading too. last album i bought was saigon

I don't think platinum is dead, i think it's the result of shitty raps and oversaturation of raps. These country niggas and rock niggas are still selling albums, you just don't see Taylor Swift dropping mixtapes watering down country.
