Total HipHop sales for 2010 was 27 million.

It's not just illegal downloading and bootlegging, I know people that go to ITunes and just download specific songs on an album instead of buying the entire C.D.

Platinum is obtainable for HipHop acts but look at the acts that go platinum, if you say Nicki Minaj is worthy of one I guess she is.

the question is why are these rap artists still falling for the 360 deal trap when they should be going the independent route .....

a record label taking a chunk off of all your earnings around the board while you only moving 265k units is what u call slavery ....

Them niggas want the fame. some of these dues have dreams that they are the next Jay. so it's not till after some failures that they realize they need to fall back and do what's best for them instead of doing what they think will make them a star and rich. Most guys that are indy are folks who been in the game for a minute and understand the traps of being on a major. while a youngster sees getting on 106 park, touring with rihanna, and the BET awards as what they want.

em, drake, and nicki albums was definitely not worthy

That's pretty much been the consensus...but let's take a trip back into time to 2002:

JayZ, Busta Rhymes, Camron, Nas, Diddy, LL Cool J, & Ja-Rule all went platinum and that's just New York......

Outside New York that same year LiL Jon, Snoop Dogg and Emenim went double Platinum.

That's 10 HipHop artists I can name off top and I'm positive I missed a lot, but you can clearly see the difference in plaques in less than a decade.
