how is this movie different from episode 4? Shit starts with someone getting captured(Leia/Poe), a force wielder that doesn't know it is found on a desert planet(Luke/Rey), and the darkside(empire/first order) builds another death star, only for the resistance/rebellion to destroy it and leave the dark side reeling leading into the next movie.

Shit wasn't original to me, just regurgitated George Lucas ideas, made to sell toys and t shirts. Too many explosions and "car chases" so to speak, and not enough storytelling. Wasn't a bad movie, but definitely not worth hype leading up to it.

Plus some teenage kids sitting beside me at the theater had some banging body odor, shit was ridiculous. I can't stand teenagers smack dab in the middle of puberty.

I knew they were telling the same ol story but just doing it for the newer younger fans. So cant trip but the final 30 mins shits on the first 2 prequels alone.

Nothing in this movie felt better than Episodes 2-6 to me. Attack of the Clones gets no love, but it was dope to me. Seeing Yoda get down with a lightsaber for the first time will always be GOAT to me.

It was the love story and anakins corball flirting that ruined the movie other than that every thing else about the movie was good

Name me a truly original blockbuster nowadays.

Jurassic World is Jurassic Park

Mad Max Fury Road is Mad Max Road Warrior

Avengers 2 is Avengers 1...

Etc...

every big studio movie borrows ideas.

Nigga that ain't borrowing ideas, that's taking the entire plot from the original movie. Just because everybody is doing it, doesn't make that shit ok. They even built another death star, and change the name. When the fuck are these dark side niggas gonna learn that a planet destroying weapon is not the way to go about taking over a galaxy??? The resistance base looks practically the same as the Rebel base in the original trilogy. We even got the head of the Darkside only communicating through holograms, and major characters dying at the end. Same shit, with new paint. IMO starting closer to the events of Return of the Jedi would have been a better starting point.

On Kylo Ren

He a unfinished product. Never completed his training with Luke nor with Snoke. He got the gift, but he raw as fuck. And his sword work was sloppy as hell. Compare his skill with the lightsaber to that of Obi-wan way back in Phantom Menace. Young Obi-Wan wasn't even a master and he killed Darth Maul who wasn't no slouch. He would've washed Kylo Ren easy. Never mind someone as skilled as Yoda or Anakin.

That plus the injury is why Rey and to an extent Finn were able to hang with him. I mean think about it... The only one who could've really gave him any lightsaber training was Luke. And Luke himself had only the barest minimal lightsaber training with old Obi-Wan. Kylo Ren is like somebody who been taking karate classes for a few years but ain't black belt level. Yeah you got an advantage but a common street fighter catch you slipping(Rey tapping into the force) you might get slept.

Only reason Luke beat Vader was because he tapped into his anger/rage/hate in that moment. Kylo tried to do that by killing his father and beating on his bleeding injury to get there, but he never did. When Anakin made that full dark side switch his eyes turned yellow

OwleyeAnakin.jpg

Kylo never got to that point because a) even Snoke said his dark side training needed to be finished and b) even he admitted himself when he was praying to Vaders helmet, that he still felt the call of the light side.

In that context, it's easy to believe he could have a rough time with those two in that circumstance. He strong in the force and he developed some cool techniques, but he ain't ready either.

I expect him to have a lot of growth in the next 2 movies as well as Rey and Finn

When kylo ren comes back with that scar on his face he is not going to be taking any prisoners in episode 8 he is going to be ruthless.

Niggas hating on Finn hard. Too cornballish? Not a hero? He's a weak coon character? Niggas need to step back and appreciate his role for what it was. Out of ALL the canidates who applied for this role it went to John. Dude expressed the most on screen acting outside of Harrison Ford. He is developing a new character that will lead this next generation of Star Wars.

I won't lie, I wanted Finn to be more based off of the picture the previews were showing but if you analyze the complexity of the character you have a better time accepting his part. Understand tho, Finn pushed the movie toward.

I agree with majority of this. Ren wasn't quite there yet and it showed in his appearance. I didn't even think of that but it goes with him still being on the fence. Everyone who changes the dark side consumes them and you see it physically.

It's just speculation but I believe since he was just a regular looking guy it made it easier for Rey to control the situation. The intimidation was gone when he took off his mask. I think that's why they chose Driver. Dude looks goofy anyway. In a way he was hiding behind the mask.

What I don't know if that's just the direction they are going but the duels in the prequels were top notch compared to ep 7. Since we don't know I'll just assume their technique isn't that good and they have a lot to learn.

Where I disagree with is the Luke part. I didn't read the books but I know he is supposed to be the greatest Jedi ever but that's in the EU. Now in the new universe you might have a point and he might not be that nigga like that.

You do realize the characters are literally 30 years older and its would make no sense to have a movie start closer to return of the Jedi.Holograms and major characters dying is an issue, that is part of that universe ? You take that away its not stars wars and it has no narrative moving forward.

Im not refuting that its a retelling/reboot of Star Wars new hope but personally i think they executed very well as this is always a space soap opera based around the skywalker family (for better or for worse). They had to make things farmiliar and bridge the gap of older fans and new and who knows what will happen in 8 & 9. Movies do retellings all the time some do it well some dont and I think Force awakens is doing it well side.

And those slick yoda light saber battles were bullshit lmao. There is so much wrong with the prequels that defending them in anyway is just asinine.

So a space epic movie, with technology that is not possible, and where little sense is made of anything that goes on, would not make sense to at least begin with the part of the story, that everyone wants to now know anyways? Ok, if you say so.

In an age where you can jump on Wikipedia to find out the entire story to the previous 6 movies while taking a shit, why was it necessary to "bridge the gap" as you say? That's an excuse for a lack of imaginative story telling.

I'm not gonna derail the thread with prequel talk, but niggas bitch way too much about the prequels. First one could have been better, but 2 and 3 were dope. Don't nobody wants to think for themselves, so they just repeat what's "popular opinion". Nothing in episode 7, was better than 2 or 3, let alone 4-6.

The acting was much better, and if it's not broke don't fix it. People wanted a fun new generation Star Wars and we got that with The Force Awakens.
