how is this movie different from episode 4? Shit starts with someone getting captured(Leia/Poe), a force wielder that doesn't know it is found on a desert planet(Luke/Rey), and the darkside(empire/first order) builds another death star, only for the resistance/rebellion to destroy it and leave the dark side reeling leading into the next movie.

Shit wasn't original to me, just regurgitated George Lucas ideas, made to sell toys and t shirts. Too many explosions and "car chases" so to speak, and not enough storytelling. Wasn't a bad movie, but definitely not worth hype leading up to it.

Plus some teenage kids sitting beside me at the theater had some banging body odor, shit was ridiculous. I can't stand teenagers smack dab in the middle of puberty.

Name me a truly original blockbuster nowadays.

Jurassic World is Jurassic Park

Mad Max Fury Road is Mad Max Road Warrior

Avengers 2 is Avengers 1...

Etc...

every big studio movie borrows ideas.

Nigga that ain't borrowing ideas, that's taking the entire plot from the original movie. Just because everybody is doing it, doesn't make that shit ok. They even built another death star, and change the name. When the fuck are these dark side niggas gonna learn that a planet destroying weapon is not the way to go about taking over a galaxy??? The resistance base looks practically the same as the Rebel base in the original trilogy. We even got the head of the Darkside only communicating through holograms, and major characters dying at the end. Same shit, with new paint. IMO starting closer to the events of Return of the Jedi would have been a better starting point.

You do realize the characters are literally 30 years older and its would make no sense to have a movie start closer to return of the Jedi.Holograms and major characters dying is an issue, that is part of that universe ? You take that away its not stars wars and it has no narrative moving forward.

Im not refuting that its a retelling/reboot of Star Wars new hope but personally i think they executed very well as this is always a space soap opera based around the skywalker family (for better or for worse). They had to make things farmiliar and bridge the gap of older fans and new and who knows what will happen in 8 & 9. Movies do retellings all the time some do it well some dont and I think Force awakens is doing it well side.

And those slick yoda light saber battles were bullshit lmao. There is so much wrong with the prequels that defending them in anyway is just asinine.

So a space epic movie, with technology that is not possible, and where little sense is made of anything that goes on, would not make sense to at least begin with the part of the story, that everyone wants to now know anyways? Ok, if you say so.

In an age where you can jump on Wikipedia to find out the entire story to the previous 6 movies while taking a shit, why was it necessary to "bridge the gap" as you say? That's an excuse for a lack of imaginative story telling.

I'm not gonna derail the thread with prequel talk, but niggas bitch way too much about the prequels. First one could have been better, but 2 and 3 were dope. Don't nobody wants to think for themselves, so they just repeat what's "popular opinion". Nothing in episode 7, was better than 2 or 3, let alone 4-6.

lmao just because everyone thinks the prequels suck they must not think for themselves, lmao. That must be the reason not that the acting and chemistry was really off, the forced romance, the CGI nonsense,Jar Jar binks, Hayden Christensen and last but not least Hayden Christensen and all i have named is not the tip of the iceberg of what a cluster fuck the prequels are.

episode 3 was the only one worth tolerating and thats like coming first in the special Olympics, lmao at you saying nothing in episode 7 is as remotely close to those 2 prequels, Everything is better everything , even George Lucas, the writer's responsible and the actors cop to the fact that they were crap , but i guess you would know more than the actual custodians of the franchise.

lol at why is it necessary to bridge the gap? , not all people care about Star Wars lore, novels or comic books, hollywood always has to try and pull both casual fans and older fans into the fold, just like they do for comicbook movies , dont act coy dude you know this stop it.

How was the romance forced though? You thought Padme was just gonna be Anakin's jump off? What cgi was unnecessary?

And lol at you really thinking Lucas thought the movies were crap. Y'all just want the same exact movies as the original trilogy, but if you want the originals so bad, then go watch the originals.

And lastly, I never said anything about the comics books, or novels or any expanded universe stuff. In truth the movie does a poor job fleshing out characters, and tries to cram a bunch of characters in to fast. I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with it.

I know you can only tell so much with just 3 movies butthier romance was forced. They've been flirting with each other since the phantom menace and the dialogue was cheesy and their performance was wooden " are you an angel?" Only I care for you" I hate sand" " you are in my very soul tormenting me" oh please! I hated naboo especially in episode 2 with those weird looking land mammals that planet is so out of place I'm the star wars universe. What thell is a 10/year old doing hitting on a 14 year old. What was Lucas thinking? If I were to write that movie I would of made anakin slightly older than padme about 15 or 16years old. That way we wouldn't be hearing such goofy shit being spewed from 10 year olds like " this is so wizard ani!" Or "yipee!"

I thought it was a great film even though it borrowed mostly elements for a new hope. There's no boring scenes what so ever , JJ Abrams really did a good job of making it feel like nothing was forced no pun intended. But The character development has left me quite puzzled. For instance Rey, I feel gets too familiar with the force right away evidence of her Jedi mind tricking the storm trooper to release her, even luke couldn't posses that type of power off bat in episode 4, Im just speculating That due to the flashback which occurred when she touched Luke's old lightsaber that she is basically Luke's Daughter, That connection was too strong for anyone not to notice. Daisy Ridley did an amazing job as the female lead though. At points coming off Sexy imo and confident combined. The final scene with her outdueling Kylo was suspicious as well because she kinda did it with ease, even Kylo said she was strong with force with no training, Perhaps its because she's your Cousin . Once Again based off guessing. The marketing team pulled a fast one on the audience because the whole time we thought Finn was the "The One" but John Boyega did an exceptional job as well. It sorta felt like he was only being brave if he had no other choice like when rey was kidnapped. And No folks he's not mace windu son, Mace died over 50 years ago according to star wars timeframe. Iam curious to see more into his backstory since he stated he was taken away at a young age. Han Solo dying didn't come as a surprise, Kylo basically did it to try and convice Snoke of him converting more into the dark side, because even himself could feel the Light calling unto him. And Besides Harrison Ford has said for years he didn't appreciate that role and that it was annoying. He basically wanted the Money in my opinion. The on screen chemistry with leia was like it never left. But Kylo must not know that Darth Vader basically became good again once he destroyed Palpatine in ROTJ, Why Luke failed to mention that is totally bizarre. I would like to know more about the Knights Of Ren too. I was highly disappointed in the lack of screen time captain phasma received , they hyped her up only for her to be in the film a total of 15min and she didn't even put up a fight when finn and han attacked her. My feeling is that luke will train rey and that the final showdown between her and Kylo wont be until episode 9, which leaves me wondering what the plot of episode 8 will be, especially with the new republic destroyed and all that is left is the resistance. I hope they don't kill Luke either. This Snoke character hologram was super cool though. Im wondering if that's his actually size or is he smaller and what particular alien race is he and how did he get put on to the dark side if palpatine and vader were both killed off seeing that they were the last of the sith. Poe dameron was cool too but was basically a non factor til the climax. I give the movie a 8/10 in rating

Well all I know is that I thought it was dope. Paid homage to the original trilogy while starting fresh with a new generation. I love Star Wars but I'm not going to pick this apart like some of ya'll. I was just hoping for anything better than the Prequels and I confident in saying I got that and more. The prequels just didn't seem fun to me like the originals were. It was like I was watching them because I felt obligated to. But thats just me...

I went to see it in IMAX with my Dad which was cool because Star Wars is the only movie I can geek out with him on cuz he's not into Marvel, GoT or anything like that so it was a pretty cool to see his reaction and he really liked it.

the problem with cgi is when it's overused and looks like shit. just compare the sets from episodes 1-3 to the sets from 4-7. the prequels are almost entirely cgi sets which takes away from the overall films.

shit, I watched episode 2 for the first time in forever a couple nights ago and some of the scenes with the clone armies look like they're from a 3d animation film, not from a live action star wars film.

Kylo Again
Regardless of him being unfinished, he had way more experience and control of the force than Rey. She did not even know what the force or a lightsaber was and still doe snot know until look trains her, but she was able to beat Kylo who had been training all his life. Not possible;e in SQ universe.

Idk if I can really say I'm a big Star Wars fan because when the original series came out I wasn't even born when the first 2 came out & was barely a year old when Return of the Jedi dropped. I hadn't seen a Star Wars movie until I was 15 when I got the collection set (VHS) as a b-day gift. A couple yrs later Phantom Menace came out and it was kind of cool.

I don't get why the Star Wars prequel films get hate like they do. I understand the first movie was probably like *meh* to some people because a little kid was the lead of the movie and it was slow but a decent movie came out of it. Episodes 2 & 3 were the backbone of the prequels and you can damn near put them up there with the original films.

In my opinion it looks better when you can't tell it's being used. Studios go to CGI to suspend belief and add fantasy but it ends up looking horrible in some cases. For example Jurassic Park used CGI and they mixed it with animatronics and it made it look more authentic.

It takes talent and it a large amount of time to do but in a way studios have become lazy relying on It too much. Effects have gotten better but they don't know how to "hide" it anymore

Episode 1 is my least favorite of the films, but I fucked with Darth Maul heavy, with that dope ass double bladed light saber. That final battle between Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan was dope. Hella drama in that fight, with Obi-Wan getting seperated, watching his master die firsthand, and then damn near plummeting to his death. I didn't fuck with Darth Maul dying, especially the way it happened, but it is what it is.

I always thought it was dope watching Palpatine make moves right under everyone's noses, and we got a taste of just how powerful he was when he threw down with Yoda. Yoda been that nigga, so to see his technical proficiency with the force and a lightsaber in the prequels was a treat for me.

The Jedi and the Sith have always been my favorite part of Star Wars, so maybe that's why the prequels resonate with me as much as the originals. The opportunity to see the Jedi I'm their prime, was enough to make the films enjoyable to me.

And fuck you @fortyacres for saying the Yoda fights were bullshit lol

When I saw this trailer for some reason I felt....

At the 1:30 mark when Rey is crying, it's post fight between Finn and Kylo Ren, obviously they become close or friends in this movie... I'm thinking Finn might get the business in the end and she's over him crying because he's beat or severely hurt.

The background seems like a snowy dark forest they were getting ready to fight in.

finn-scared-star-wars.jpg

Based on this facial expression Finn's confidence seems to change since turning on his lightsaber.

The cgi at that geonosis battle scene was terrible no practical effects whatsoever al green screen it looks almost as cartoonksh as those shark boy. or spy kid movies. You can tell all the. Geonosisians in the crowd were repeated renders. I like the action in that scene but I'm Just giving an example Of really bad cgi.

yall dont fuck with Attack of the Clones?

It's OK. Every thing about it was good except for the reshed romance between anakim and padme. Dude hasn't seen her I n ten years. From what I get he wasn't thinking about her until he saw her. Then forgets all his neck training and starts creepsetting ("don't look at me like that"........" Sorry m'lady") she blew him off for half of the movie. Then at the face of death she loves him. K just felt they come of came with something better than that. Every thing else was good though. The bounty hunter chase in the beggining. More of the Jedi temple. Obi wan doing detective work. Jango fett. The battle of geonosis. Etc.

They made anakin seem like a fucking creep. He hasn't seen that girl since he was like 11... So he 21 now and talking about this girl like he knew her since forever . Then they fall in love like that's stupid

The endless exposition & round table discussions talking about shit that would've been much more exciting to see. The wooden acting. The horrible CGI (save for Ep. 3). Atrocious dialogue. Piss poor chemistry. Midichlorians.

Nah... Wasn't a damn thing good about those prequels. Only episode 3 was decent.
