I bet you don't understand 90% of the shit Ghost is saying, he even says he was just making up shit, where as Fishscale he still had that vicious flow but was actually saying shit, stories were more potent, and I'd rather those Pete Rock/MF DOOM beats with Dilla and Just Blaze sprinkled in, much more cohesive album I don't care what Rolling Stones was saying

I've NEVER met a person in real life that prefers illmatic over IWW. That idea only exists amongst internet nerds and do called purist. IWW still sounds current, with the exception of NY state of mind, Illmatic sounds extremely dated.

I agree about some of the production being dated, and I would go so far as to say that It Was Written is probably the most lyrical album ever, but Illmatic is literally the definition of 5 Mics.

As much as I love IWW and all-time joints like The Message, Take It in Blood, I Gave You Power, The Setup, Live Nigga Rap, If I Ruled the World, and Silent Murder, overall, it's just not as tight as Illmatic was. When I first listened to that album, I felt like I could visualize a hot summer day in Queens, and I had never been to New York at that time.

At 9 tracks, Illmatic didn't get a chance to be whack. Some people try to say One Time 4 Your Mind or Halftime ain't classic tracks, but you're literally arguing that 2 tracks off the same album don't make it on Nas' greatest hits- not a criticism to be mad at in my book.

I put myself in Fishscale mode so I just listened to it again, obviously songs like Shakey dog, the champ, be easy, ragu, etc...are the highlights of the album but it wouldn't be a classic without those short stories like Beauty Jackson, barbershop, and whip me with a strap, love that album most underrated ever

Sonically maybe it was a masterpiece and his flow and style might of matched those beats brilliantly but when he admits he saying shit that don't make sense and it sounds like he's just stringing a bunch of words together then I don't see how it can be called a masterpiece
