Nigga how you gon say a song that came out 10 years prior to another song has the feel of the newer song?

It should be the other way around, guy

One mic has a I gave you life feel, not the opposite

well, i've listened to (and still do) Stillmatic from back to front. That album is amazing

i was attempting to draw connections b/t the two despite not hearing any of the previous material

I guess, in other words, to say there is a huge gap b/t the releases, the information is still relevant to the times in which they were released as well as present day.

The first time I listened to it was written I couldn't understand the criticism it gets

I was bumping it recently and I used to think the same thing

But now I understand the context

Illmatic is an sonically different and lyrically had more substance while IWW was clearly following the trends on the day

It's a great album but now I understand how ppl bought nas fell off by 2000

Wu Tang Forever.. Listen to that if you haven't

fun story...idk if ya'll had this where ya'll live across the pond, but here in the states, there used to be some shit where you got in the mail, and you ordered like 10 cd's for a $1, then ended up subscribing to some shit for like $20 a month after that or something...

Moms was asking me if there were some discs i wanted. Wu had JUST dropped "triumph" iirc. I was in love with that song. So i told her to order me that cd. When i got it, i only listened to Triumph (on repeat lol) and "its yours" ...haha

gon add this to the list

btw, im going to give preference to albums offered as part of Amazon's Prime music service. They have a bunch of older hip hop stuff available for streaming.

had a podnuh in college was a CRAZY ghostface fan. He was from Baton Rouge too lol. Who would've thought. Nigga was a spitting image of Brian Pumper, and was dressed like the WuTang cats back in college.

I'll probably start this on the way home and report back

Older heads claim it was too "commerical", which I don't see how it was

Yeah especially if u compared to now, I don't see it, but what it is is more Polished imo, I usually have a slight preference to an artists more "raw" debut, but the Polish helped Nas imo

BTW this a good thread cuz as much as every one like rap it's pretty much impossible to have heard every thing especially if u under 30 imo. Maybe singles but not whole albums

The thing about 'it is written' is, i didnt like Nas at first, but when i went back to listen to it after Pac dissed him on against all odds and he actually said he took shots, went thru, left the hospital that same night what, got my gat back, time to backtrack....

But i was really really listening to The Message, and then peeped the other songs, and ummmm, Thats my fav Nas album. Yup. Over Illmatic.

U missed out on some hip hop essentials my brother..

If ur gonna listen to Gfk u might as well start with Ironman. And if ur gonna listen to that u should start with raekwon's only built for cuban links. And let's not forget about Gza's liquid swords..

Just head over to the reason vault and listen to every album in there u haven't listened to already..

aight fellas,

btw, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread

so i just wrapped up supreme clientele

My previous experience with this album consisted of "apollo kids" (GREAT workout song) and "cherchez laghost".

So, ok, I can get down with Ghostface. Album was a solid joint. There were a couple of joints I wasnt really feeling, mainly Nutmeg and The Grain.

Standout songs to me (outside of the singles):

-Buck 50

-Malcolm

-Wu Banga

-Child's Play

I give this album a solid 6.5/10.
