And kerry wood had the Woat mechanics after his tommy john surgery he pitched well but kept havin shoulder injuries because of his horrible throwing technique that he refused to change until he realized his career would be over unless he did

strasburg dont throw no where like wood

Nah...not really. If anything, that helps my team (Braves). I could really care less about Werth on the real

Yep, I'm Philly. But I'm a Braves fan to the end. As for Werth, I think the Nats overpaid for him like crazy. Anyway, he already told the Philly media that he felt like he wasn't wanted by the Phils. So, it was just a matter of time before he went somewhere else.

Not sure if anyone already posted this or not (and I'm certainly NOT gonna go back through each recent page of this thread to check, either), but it looks like the Nats are looking to step in and steal Cliff Lee away from everybody. If they can make that happen, you can't do anything but applaud their efforts to put a contender together immediately.

the Nationals would have been better off just resigning Dunn for less money and years. Dunn's defense is a major negative but he is a proven power hitter that can hit anywhere. Werth is a very solid player but this is too much money for a career .270 something hitter who has never had over 100 RBI's that's gonna be 32 when the season starts. They would have been better off going after Crawford and overpaying for a vastly superior player. Or they could have simply address holes and signed multiple players to short term deals and save the cash for their young players who will want extensions in a couple years

cause even if Werth balls this year, he won't even be an above replacement player by the time the Nats are ready to go toe-to-toe with the other NL East contenders

this is just a gross example of paying someone to make the fan base seem like they are active

I see that there are a lot of baseball fans here.

Was the nationals' defense that bad, in order to sign Werth? I looked at Werth's defensive stats and they are more valuable than his offensive productions.

that shouldn't be a problem..the lerner family has the most money in baseball..there tryna build something so they have to over pay at first to get free agent there....

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Chicago White Sox agreed to a three-year, $37.5 million deal with free agent first baseman Paul Konerko on Wednesday.

ESPNChicago.com White Sox blog
The latest news and notes on the White Sox. Blog

The contract breaks down as follows: $12 million in first year; $12 million in second year; $6.5 million in third; seven years deferred at $1 million each.

"We have made no secret of the fact that re-signing Paul Konerko was our top offseason priority," Sox general manger Ken Williams said in a statement. "Paul's value to the organization on the field and in the clubhouse can never be overstated. He is one of the greatest players in franchise history, and we hope he finishes his career in a White Sox uniform."

Williams said Tuesday that negotiations were at a standstill, prompting him to start seriously considering other options. But that standstill didn't last long. Movement toward an agreement started at about 1 a.m. ET.

Konerko, who will be 35 on Opening Day, is coming off one of his best seasons, batting .312 with 39 home runs and 111 RBIs. He has six 30-home run seasons and has drive in 100-plus runs five times in his 14-year career.

Konerko, who took less money to return to the White Sox the last time he was a free agent following their World Series season in 2005, is 35 home runs shy of 400 for his career.

The Sox also signed free agent Adam Dunn to form a very potent lineup.

White Sox re-sign Paul Konerko

Paul Konerko has decided to stay with the Chicago White Sox, agreeing to a $37.5 million, three-year contract.
The first baseman, a four-time All-Star, gets $12 million in each of the next two seasons and $13.5 million in 2013 under Wednesday’s agreement. In the final year, $7 million will be deferred and paid annually in $1 million installments from 2014-20.
The 34-year-old was fifth in voting for AL MVP this year after hitting .312 with 39 homers and 111 RBIs. He’ll be part of a lineup that now includes slugger Adam Dunn, recently signed to a $56 million, four-year deal.
“We have made no secret of the fact that re-signing Paul Konerko was our top offseason priority,” White Sox general manager Kenny Williams said. “Paul’s value to the organization on the field and in the clubhouse can never be overstated. He is one of the greatest players in franchise history, and we hope he finishes his career in a White Sox uniform.”
Konerko was acquired from Cincinnati after the 1998 season and helped the White Sox win the 2005 World Series. He ranks second to Frank Thomas in team history with 358 career home runs, 1,127 RBI and 701 extra-base hits.

edit: haha i didn't get first - oh well.

it's on now shitbags - White Sox back to the World Series 2011!!

Tampa Bay Rays are Most likely to Trade Bartlett and Matt Garza also....

They dont need Garza cuz that organization is stacked with Pitchers in their System ....But they Need Bartlett for Defense, Bartlett went backwards hitting wise in 2010 but he's a really really good defender ....But i Know they had Talks with the Orioles For a Bartlett For Nolan Rienold Deal , but i dunno if that deal is still on the table or not.

oh word, I don't really know anything about their owners so I'll take your word for it

as for Werth, I know from being a White Sox fan that some teams seem to have to overpay a bit to get guys, but I don't see the point here. Jayson Werth doesn't sell tickets. Jayson Werth is not the type of guy that is going to carry your team. He's a good/not great hitter, who has a bit of speed and is likely a good guy to have in your clubhouse with young players. but I just thought he would have been a much better signing as a guy that was meant to put a team that was emerging over the edge rather than for a team that's a few years away and has never shown anything except for a beginning of the year flash in the pan

many teams have shown a blueprint for being in a smaller market and being competitive, the signing of non-franchise players to big free agent contracts isn't it

unless they're trying to show other players out there that they are serious about this

risky

if I was a GM I would love one year deals

give the player/s the motivation to reestablish himself/themselves and earn a new multiyear contract

if Pena flops, Cubs only lose money(raise ticket prices etc). They'll likely be out of the playoff hunt anyway

if he balls then the Cubs can keep him or flip him for a few young prospects come trade deadline

I see nothing but upside considering all that was available. Laroche would have wanted a multi year deal. No way Milwaukee trades Prince inside their division. The 10 million for Pena does seem pretty high but I'm sure they had to pay a little extra knowing its a one year deal
