Lets be real: the 2000s rappers are starting to die out just like the 90s rappers before them.

Damn this is a startling revelation, Hip Hop has never witnessed such a thing. Thanks TS I was wondering what happen to all my favorite rappers from the last decade. Does this phenomenon also explain what happen to my favorite 80's artist?

Now im not saying all of them, but many have however.

Just like how many 90s rappers started getting less relevant in the 2000s; the same is now happening to the 2000s rappers in this era.

00s rappers like 50, Ja, Jadakiss, Fab, Juelz Santana, Lloyd Banks, Ludacris, TI arent as fresh as they used to be when they were popping. They obviously have nothing more to offer now, thats why they arent as popular anymore. They had their chance. It's just redundant bullshit tbh.

Now it's time for their place to be taken by this era's rappers like Kendrick, Drake, ASAP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, as well as many future ones on the come up.

Jay, Nas, Wayne, And Kayne and a few others can stay because they have proven they can transcend eras without comepeltely losing themselves out of the game like many of their peers.

Guys, welcome to the 10's era.

so it aint a matter of dying out, hiphop is the youth, those guys are all in their mid to late 30's...

This pretty much sums it up.

No one stays on top forever. A person gets their season, then it's all over. It's not just rappers, it's all genre of music, sports, and movies. The trick is not about how much money you made, but how much you can keep.

and 90's stars didnt die out, the flows and songs evolved into a better genre....aside from drake and kendrick of those you have stated, none of them have songs that shit on any of the 2000's guys best songs, so it aint a matter of dying out, hiphop is the youth, those guys are all in their mid to late 30's...but the 2000's didnt overtake shit

Pretty bias here but whatever. You sound like the average old hip hop head.

t/s is dead on though.

I agree with the overall premise of the thread. I disagree about some of these guys though. While an artist like T.I. may not be as fresh as he once was, the same can be said about any artist beyond their debut. Of course there's artists like Jay Z and Nas that have resurgences where they drop Grade A material late in their careers, but they are definitely an exception. It can be argued that Kanye and Wayne aren't as fresh as they once were. Kanye really hasn't transcended an era to the degree of a Jay or Nas who debuted in the 90's and remained relevant throughout last decade and are relevant now. I could see an argument for Wayne who debuted in '99, experienced a huge surge in popularity in the middle of the last decade, and is still popular now.

There's also the fact that T.I. is still doing numbers on par with a legend like Nas and better than Wiz, Sean, and Meek Mill.

Yes, they are next. No matter how much you want to deny it.

I used to think that none of them were going to stay long when their buzzes each started. But it seems they are not going anywhere. They are here to stay

For how long? I think the avg amount of years for rappers is usually like 3-4

well then give me one example of what you think is hot from this new gen. and i can give you a song of the same content thats better...and im 28, and i grew up in the trillest of times

What your saying is irrelevant though. What does it prove?

Who's to say a song like Mercy wouldn't get play in 01?? Who can accurately say a random 00's hit could dent a 2012 radio playlist? You 80's babies, i swear..

SMH.. I bet you'll be saying the bolded for the rest of your life.

The biggest challenge the new school of artists face is being able to hold their own on songs without hella features. Kendrick has proved this with his last album but others in his class have not. When i think of the 2000's i think about how nelly, luda, 50, kanye, and many other rappers showed how as an artist they could make hits where you knew it was thier song. Even a chingy that had a short lived career or a j kwon with a short mainstream stay showed who they were with limited features.

These new school rappers are subect to juts being side dishes on their own album instead of the main course. Why there is nothing wrong with collabing its starting to be overdone. This era there are guys who give a talented guest verse but cant seem to put together a solid album of their own where they show the world who they really are (and not who the label want's you to think they are).

Asap just got his buzz within what the past year...a year, some youtube videos and some mixtapes ain't enough to say somebody has longevity. Meek too especially with the overall reaction to his first album not being that good. Wiz still got people doubting him the more he transforms into a hippie...Big Sean still got to prove he can do more than rap about the many ways he can fuck your girl and saying "Oh God" for 2 verses per song...Truthfully the only 2 new school that have shown they got any shot at longevity career wise are Kendrick and Drake...ya'll can't be this desperate to anoint new niggas in rap that niggas who barely got 4 hrs worth of a music library here to stay

a lot of these guys haven't put out proper major label albums yet out anyway, just mixtapes or free albums or independent albums. and who specifically are you referring to?

Just to name a few:

Wiz

Big Sean

Meek

Ross

2 Chainz

When you think of the overall albums of some of these guys its either forgetable and or relys too much on features to carry them. There are reptitive topics and its hard to play one of their albums front to back. Again many of these artists as you pointed out haven't had more than 1 release. But still i feel like they still have allot to prove not as far as their fame or their crew but being able to hold their own on an album and be like artists of previous era that without features could still make good albums/album tracks.
