Of course the old school would have a lot classics by opinion because their albums had more time to stand the test of time. Also, those albums had more impact than a lot of stuff today. But like i said, the rappers we are fans of today were STANS of the rappers from their era. Nas wrote a song for Rakim, that shows love for a rapper he grew up on. Nas made a remake of a song by Slick Rick. That's no different than Elzhi & Fashawn remaking Illmatic to pay homage today.
As far as rappers from yesterday getting more credit than today, that's not true and that's why some of those rappers lash out in interviews. Lil Wayne has a lot of fans and sold a milli in 2 weeks, how many of those fans do you think know who KRS 1 is? That's what Nas was talking about "Carry On Tradition" from HHID. Cats don't even know who the rappers are that started all of this shit, and they don't care to know. Jeezy didn't even know Monie Love was a rapper when she was defending Nas on that famous radio interview. Ludacris said on MVP that he was "the first southern rapper on a primo beat" but Scarface rapped with Gangstarr on "Betrayal' 10 years earlier. Lupe wasn't even familiar with ATCQs catalog but decided to do a tribute to them. Fans and rappers don't give a lot of credit to rappers, because they don't know their accomplishments.
I think their is a huge disconnect between fans and the history of hip hop music. Hotstylz was looked at by old heads as wack for their song "Lookin Ass Nigga" but said nothing in the 90s when Pharcyde did "Ya Mama" back in the day. Both songs were basically niggaz playing the dozens with each other. Likewise, a lot of fans of Hotstylz may not even own nor know of the Pharcyde or Bizzarre Ryde II The Pharcyde. So basically audiences of certain fans gives credits to their favorites and flat out ignore other artists. I think too many people are stans of certain rappers and not fans of the genre & culture.
I respect your post and opinion bruh..
