If I was just trying to get a chick's pants, I wouldn't care if she hid her kids from me.
But if it was a "serious dating" attempt, and she gave an answer like that, I would leave. For one, chicks without kids don't get defensive like that. Secondly, most women understand kids can be a problem, so many try to give you a heads up early on in the dating process to avoid the drama later if things get serious.
Anything else and I would assume they are hiding something or are just nutty.
If women think it's reasonable to know if I am employed, I think it's reasonable to know something a lot more serious. I've yet to see any woman with kids give me a defensive answer. Most seem pretty proud about it, even if they shouldn't be. It's not like telling me on a first date "you have kids" threatens the kids. I'm not going to climb into their window at night and steal their transformers sheets. But I might not want a second date. Which is probably the motivation.
