so take your pick and explain

Lets assassinate Jayz....one less coke-rapper, it would be alot less materialistic, name-brand consumer bullshit in hiphop right now if he never existed.

Bid Daddy Kane - he is the forefather of the punchline rappers and punchlines are generally what's wrong with rap nowadays (Fab,Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj,Drake,Jada,Cassidy, etc). A lot of these motherfuckers aint rapping about shit, all they are focusing on is their one liners and their music have no train of thought or meaning behind it.

As for MATERIALISTIC SHIT, Yall might want to put a bullet in Slick Rick and Rakims head, because they started all this materialistic shit.

Jay style is just as influenced by G Rap and Slick Rick to me, i never considered Jay a punchline rapper per se. He does have parts of Kane in his style though.

Yep, his first album is called Paid in Full for God sakes. Was the first to rock rope chains, was flashing cash, guns, and fancy cars in his videos, but if you let these purist tell it though, you would swear he rocked a kuffi and kente cloth outfits. lol

Come on man thats not fair to say that about Rakim. The bulk of Rakims catalog is science and introspective lyrics, his flagship song "Paid in Full" was about being broke.

Slick Rick had the gaudy jewells and and 4-finger rings but he was known for his story-telling, not his flossing, JayZ came in the game with champagne, yachts, cigars and name-dropping every exenspive brand-name you could imagine.

Rakim & Slick Rick had a more balanced approach they didnt glorify drug-dealing and genocide the way JayZ embraced it. JayZ made being a drug-baron "cool", and "hip", he was the very first Drug-Lord rapper to find mainstream acceptence, and its been downhill for hiphop every since.

and JayZ said it was okay to dumb down your music and double your dollars..he hurt HipHop when he did that.

Don't criticize other niggas for the same shit then, it's all about the principle to me. Some niggas let shit slide when it's their favorite rappers doing it and criticize other rappers for doing the same shit.

Who would it be and why? keep in mind the contributions of this artist, their catalog, and historical moments, etc., and also tell how hip-hop would be different without that artist

IT'S NOT ABOUT MAKING HIP-HOP BETTER BY REMOVIN OF OF THESE ARTIST!!!!

-kanye west

Never cared for his contributions and not for the latest decade much either, so I would feel indifferent about one less overrated rapproducer in it. Hip-hop would have been less about a "soulful" sound specially in the underground without Kanye, that's all I can think of.

i would have to go with scarface. Even though he's one of my favorites and i'd also be getting rid of the geto boys in the process - i think it would have the least impact overall since even though people respect face he isn't really the type of mc that's given birth to a lot of different styles.

maybe Jay though. even though i like his music and he's one of the best, his influence on the rappers that came after him hasn't really been positive.

How could you say that about Scarface? His song "Scarface" inspired Kool G Rap to go the mafioso route which created mafioso rap which in turn led to a bunch of wannabe cokeheads in the east coast which led to Jay-Z following suit and talking about that thing with mainstream acceptance, which did a lot for the later day rappers. Scarface's influence is so overlooked and underrated. Plus Geto Boys took hip-hop to the next level! Who made songs about being insane, necrophilia, rape and body decapitation before G.B? That's right, nobody!

Nas.

He's a bunch of different 80's rapper rolled up with multiple Ls and media shock.

SMH, Hip Hop would have died in the 90s with no Nas. One yourself idiot.

Anyways I'd pick either Em, so the white man and commercial doesn't take over, and let a talented white rapper get success if any, Jay to stop materialistic, rich money, disrespecting women/biggie rap, Big cause of the same with Jay except more vulgar, less talent and more gangsta, or 50 Cent b/c he made peole staty looking at sales instead of skills.
