Since when is Cube not in a G.O.A.T/ Top 5 convo? Given War & Peace was not his best work but it was a hit and miss project. Other then that Cube's discography is excellent. This is the man whos raps put gangster rap on the map. Sure Schooly D and Ice-T where the first "gangster rappers" but Cubes pen game is the reason NWA blew up and introduced the world to gangster rap.

as far as LL he is a G.O.A.T but he probably shouldve stopped after the Definition album he did with Timbaland.

As far as Kanye goes hes made some really dope rap albums. I still to this day have not listened to 808's though. but like previously mentioned he has had help. Rhymefest (College Dropout) and Consequince (College Dropout, Late Registration and Graduation) wrote alot of Kanye's rhymes so that disqualifies him as a great.

See this on the IC a lot...Any proof?

why i gotta be a "dick rider"? you said some dumb shit plain and simple...what you did was try and make your opinion of kanye west a fact from "real hiphop heads"....my point to "dumb it down" for you is that your saying "if you like kanye then your not a TRUE hip-hop head" so again "gtfoh"

It's true. It's not dumb..it's highly opinionated which is the scale that all art is judged on. Most Hip Hop heads can't stand Kanye for his antics and his lack of lyrical skill. The only thing he has to his name is production. Kanye has made some great beats in the past, I'm not saying that what he's done production wise is crap, but to look at the artist as a whole, could never consider him a GOAT.

Kanye appeals to the casual fan, which isn't bad because they make the base of any successful artist, but you can't solely judge someone for GOAT status based on popularity. So yes I called you a dick rider because you turned a blind eye to the obvious short comings of Kanye and it makes you sound ignorant and un-knowledgable.

So why does tupac get praised for the same thing? That nigga was trash lyrically and was more known for his antics than bars

And to me kanye will be one of the greatest hip hop artists when he's done

I'm done with this nonsense thread. You all can have it. Nas was right Hip Hop is Dead.

Most of what keeps niggas like LL and Cube from G.O.A.T. conversations is the fact that they didn't quite know when to stop...and much of their latter catalog is tainted with trash. Take LL, for example. If he had stopped after Mr. Smith, he'd be exalted. But the garbage he released afterwards has tarnished the greatness of his legacy. He's done.

I think we all can agree that Kanye has one of the strongest catalogs in hip hop right now and can definitely rival similar catalogs by Hov and Nas, in terms of cohesiveness, and his work as a producer is top tier, to say the least.

Let's say Kanye retires now...are Graduation, 808's, College Drop out, Dark Twisted Fantasy, Watch the Throne, and Late Registration good enough to solidify Kanye as a G.O.A.T.?

What say ye?

So basically the one of the Godfathers of Gangsta Rap and the rapper that IS the foundation of Def Jam and also THE MAIN REASON RAPPERS rap to the ladies can't be considered one of the GOATs???

But to answer ur question right now IMO i can't call this one

Right now Kanye is Top 15 IMO. The only thing keeping him out of the Top 10 is longevity. Yes, his seven years in Hip Hop as a recording artist (not just a producer) is more years than Pac and Big's five, but their music transcended those five years. It's been about 15 years since both died and their music is still discussed, bumped, and held in high regard. If Kanye's music has that kind of longevity, then yes he would definitely be in contention.

I still don't get how people knock Kanye for not being a technically great MC, but praise him for being a Top tier producer just based off catalog.

Watch The Throne was an average sounding album at best in my opinion

Retiring on those terms ain't cool
