Man being a kid I remember crackheads fucking all over the place. You could be walking or riding down the street and see crackheads fucking, shit was crazy. And that's how the prison system blew up too, all those drug offenses, cats were getting 20 to life

Out of all the changes Obama has done. Getting rid of the disparaging sentencing on nonviolent drug charges will be the biggest accomplishment.

You clearly haven't read the Brother's resume. Obams is literally the greatest President since Since

If this was the Netherlands then yes, But he way too liberal for me. Raising the federal minimum wage, His blatant ignoring to wall street BS and constant problem with being able to convey his plans puts him just in front of Clinton but behind Great presidents.

There are other things I dont like about him but I dont feel like debating.

yeah. whatever u say. u probably couldn't even tell me 10 things he's signed into fruition that wasn't covered on the News that u know specifically what he's talking about.

*waits for you to wikipedia and google*

Well shit.... When Crack hit NYC..at the time where NYC was dangerous..niggas was getting killed and raped in central park, time square was were all the porno and prostitutes were at, drug dealers.. now time square look like Disney land.. Besides Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island getting hit bad by the crack epidemic.. Nothing compare to Harlem and South Bronx.. They got hit the worst.. Harlem and South Bronx was like the Wild Wild West..abandon buildings fill with dead bodies..(came from niggas like the Black Hand, they were killing niggas who owed a drug debt, same niggas who kinapp Bobby brown for a drug debt) You had mothers selling their newborn babies for crack.. Putting their babies in trash cans..anytime on the news, you will see a baby found in a trash can..

Then you can't forget about the infamous drug dealers out of Harlem and The Bronx, and also as well the other borough's who were responsible for pushing that shit out into the open.. Their were certain streets you couldn't walk down on when kids were going to school.. You had niggas line up around the corner, early in the fucking morning ready to get their supply..

The crack era shit overall fuck up alot of black families .. Many never recover.. Some of the most beautiful chicks( your mother homegirls/friends/around the way chicks) you knew growing up as a kid got turnt out by that shit..Add along STD's was at an all time high too..

it affected my family alot... shyt I have cousins who was born with it in their systems.... my mother used... smh east st. louis in the late 80's 90's I'm sure we was getting 30 to 40 bodies a year... (our population is less than 30,000)

I don't remember a time when East Saint wasn't wild, but niggas always show love when I go up there lol. The race riots left a bad taste for that area for a long time, too. Left a lot of people fucked up and crack didn't help.

yea in our time period it has always be wild..

ironically east st. louis was considered one of the most beautiful cities in america in the 50's and 60's... the "great white flight" is what fucked us up.. the city is 98% black now... and with corruption... drugs... and shytty education is why it is the way it is now..

Man... some of the shit yall are talkin about could easily give someone PTSD... thanks for having the strength to share for real.

I got an older family member who talks about what really hurt the black community.

"back when things where segregated, you had true black neighborhoods. Black doctors, nurses, cops, teachers, entertainers, dentist, bakers, craftsmen, hospitals, every possible profession. You could literally live in that neighborhood and never have a reason to leave your whole life. Only time you saw whites was when you crossed the railroad tracks, then it was their territory.

What hurt the black community was when integration happened. All the black elites left. It was never the same after that. And when crack was introduced years later, the was the nail in the coffin. Its going to take a long time to fix this. drugs are easy, quick money. It made black people loyal to no one. Only to the dollar. A black men will kill 30 of his own for that quick money and wont even think twice. Its sad because when you think black neighborhoods now, its drugs, violence, and ignorance. Wasnt always like that. "

^^^^^^^^^^THIS

my dad always tells me about how good life was in the hood when he was comng up. his family didnt have anything but he said he didnt know it until he got older. his father was a brick mason who had 8 kids and back then women didnt work and he took care of everyone on his brick mason salary. my dad always tells me how nice of a place westside atl was back then and he said simpson rd was the place to be. back during segregation thats where all the black doctors, lawyers, accountants, mailmen, teachers and professionals lived and he said they lived damn good. he always tells me how you never had to leave the community for anything and every business you went to was black owned. from the pharmacies, to the movie theaters, to the restaurants, to the universities. he said everyone lived together from the college professor to the brick masons and that their was a true since of community. he always talks about the nice clubs, beautiful women, well dressed men and nice cars that he saw going up and down hunter st (which is now mlk). he didnt give fuck about interrogation b/c he had everything he needed right in the hood and the hood was all to the good.

my dad told me there were always hustlers back then numbers runners, pimps, thieves, bootleggers and even some small dope pushers. the drug of choice back then was heroin and according to him only jazz musicians had the money to support that habit so it really didnt effect anyone. even though the hustlers were there the community kept them in line and they knew what they could and couldnt do. since society was segregated the hustlers lived on the same block as the cop, the pastor, the lawyer and the teacher and none of those ppl would let the hustlers get out of line so they didnt. my dad tells me all that changed after integration. when those that could started to leave the only ppl who stayed were the ones who were stuck and the hustlers had a field day.

in my dads day simpson rd was where all the well to do black people lived. for the entirety of my life simpson rd has been crack head central. i used to go over there to buy weed in the mid 90s. ive seen dudes walking up and down the street in broad daylight on sunday afternoons with ak's, shotguns, tech 9s and uzis like it wasnt nothing. and this was before cacs started that open carry bullshit. i guess the spot was hot one particular day me and my homies went to get a sack. you could feel the tension in the air and everyday was strapped up in the open and it just didnt feel right. we got our sack, went to the park and by the time i had gotten home there was a massive shot out that day. i dont even know how many ppl got shot that day but it was a lot and it was all over the news. shit was crazy and i think it happened right after we left.

one of my was best friends moms ended up getting smoked out. when we were kids i wanted to fuck her sooo bad. she is still one of the baddest bitch i have seen shit. but when that crack got done with her she looked like a cross between whoopi goldberg and flavor flav. shit was despicable. and she lived right up the street from my aunt in what was an extremely nice neighborhood going back to the 60s that completely and totally fell apart by the 2000s after the so called crack era supposedly ended. and oh yeah my aunts husband ended up being a fiend to. shit was crazy man. and i managed to see all this shit and i lived in the freaking suburbs. crazy shit man. crazy shit.

The crack epidemic isn't a badge of honor. We don't have to romanticize the shit anymore. This isn't that Key & Peele skit from yesterday about the Euros going to African Villages and partaking in their customs.

We can erase this shit and act like it never even happened on our own terms if we wanted. Let's take a note from The Jews

Because I genuinely laughed. Doesn't diminish my statement on any of the other stories though. Don't be short sighted.

Uncles used to tell me about how Miami niggas tried to take over Atlanta and it was a war n shit. They be embellishing though

Yo unc has some merit tho. It wasn't WW3 or nothin' like dat, but nikkas on the westside was @ war w/ them Miami Boys.

They tried to take over mainly the westside hoods like Bowen Homes, Bankhead Court, some of Hollywood Court and Techwood (which was Downtown, that bitch was the first project to be torn down too... wouldn't catch me in that ho cuz AIRBODY was either slangin' or that robbin'/trickery) and various other projects (some people don't know just how many projects are/were in Atlanta ) b/c it was somewhat an untapped resource. Shit got real out here b/c they we're able to sell they're product for double/triple what they was gettin' off back home. Miami had some muscle, but more importantly they were organized (soldiers/workers had walkie talkies, hand signalshome, shifts and detailed chains of command. They actually put the city up on game w/ some tactics, BUT w/ that eventually Atlanta nikkas starting killin'em off left and right. Them Perry Homes nikkas (one of the largest projects you could imagine. If you didn't really know your way around it was possible to get lost) wasn't havin' it AT ALL! Basically they're "reign" was shorter than leprechauns.

On a much smaller scale, the same shit happened when them New Orleans cats came from Katrina, but on a much more primitive level. Soon as they moved here they was robbin' and killin' like no other. It QUICKLY came to an abrupt end tho.

I was thinking that... The vast majority of black people I know over 25 have lived through something traumatic.

The worst effect of the crack era to me, and it's something my dad pointed out to me years ago, is all the fucking wasted potential that got lost. All those crews running drug spots coulda easily been a group of friend's using that same natural talent for business to actually build and run a legit business. Imagine the companies that coulda been developed and ran with that same effort and knowledge put into a legit source of income instead of drugs

Actually there is a study that was posted on here that stated that alot of people who live in high crime places actually more than likely suffer from some type of ptsd...

i know I've seen some crazy shyt... I'm just numb to it now unless it's some shyt that happens to someone I'm close to...

my lil nigga just got out the hospital from getting shot up on the 4th... smh that shyt was crazy...

That shit literally decimated entire neighborhoods in some cities. The lost potential is immeasurable. Like someone else mentioned, the fallout from the crack era can be likened to the radioactive aftermath of when we dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. There was so much unnecessary death....so many people being sent off to prison w/ football #s......so many families split up and destroyed......future generations poisoned ( crack babies )......lost growth w/in the community....the destruction of positive black organizations and role models.....nigguhs just now coming home from jail w/ criminal records that will affect their ability to be productive members of society......mfs getting caught up in the gang life......social and financial fuel for the war on drugs which in reality was just a war on minorities and the poor....and on and on. Imagine lining up every black person in America and killing, imprisoning or poisoning 2 out of every 5 of them.....smh
