For the first time in 5+ yrs, The Source has officially crowned an album w/ "5 Mics"

i just hope it's not Recovery that album is kinda overrated as is, it'd be pretty stupid if it was rated higher then his other albums besides Encore.

the roots or big boi would be the closest imo but none = 5 mics

This...However the Source ratings lost all credibility a long time ago.

BTW, what did they give e.g. "Distant relatives" and "RPM"? At least DR should be on that list of possible albums, possibly Kweli as well but I won't argue with someone who disagrees about that one.

Revolutions Per Minute already got 4.5 mics. I don't think they've rated Distant Relatives yet.

look meet the sniper.... i'll say this one last comment than be done with you're simpleton ass... maybe instead of getting self conscious and defensive about your choice of a 5 mic album you should read and understand where im coming from....

yea mainstream media matters here... they are the reason underground rappers don't win grammys.... EXAMPLE: ludacris won album of the year for release therapy.... IMO and the hip hop community in general, that wasnt that album of the year... he won because he had both a critically acclaimed and mainstream hit with "runaway love" the grammys have been using this format to give out best album and best artist awards FOREVER.... they use mainstream success as a necessity... get ur head out ur ass...

now as far as a biased... of course after listening to all of these albums you are going to have a favorite album thats a given...what i meant was were you unbiased when listening to each album and comparing them to one another and judging them as a whole in their own right? pretty much did u give each album a chance or did u play some fan boy shit in coming to ur conclusion

and yea i stand by my statement that a classic album should be able to be played all the way through skipping no songs imo... so you pull out some cheap shit like the intro to illmatic.... pretty wack move that intro is not a song...

now as far as TML is concerned it aint a classic album... a classic hip hop album should provoke multiple emotions over the course of its entirety.... TML keeps the same melancholy tone throughout... if it was a genre of music like the blues we were talking about or a concept hip hop album than this would be a case you can argue but its neither of the above...

next, the album is not a classic because every song is not good just plain and simple... his voice is digitally enhanced to the point where its noticeable that autotune was used on EVERY track he sang on.... have you ever heard him live? his voice just doesnt hit those notes that cleanly.... im not saying autotune as in t-pain voice distortion im saying autotune as in the tool practically every singer uses to make their melodies, harmonies, and octave changes sound better....

now at the end of the day you have your opinion and i have mine.... TML is not a bad album it just is not 5 mic material... and if you TRULY feel like it is than you've already shown you lack the musical knowledge to be able to judge music for a respected publication (which the source is not... so hey maybe they will hire you)

and in this case... this hip hop shit.... my opinion is better than yours... step your game up and broaden your horizons

Did i give you enough examples???? you're not wrong cuz ur wrong... ur wrong because while you might know what good music is, you cant distinguish good hip hop from CLASSIC hip hop... and while you know when a voice sounds good you dont know when it sounds digitally enhanced to the point where its quality is not even close to being attainable by the artist on a real life stage....

i like the music i consider classic to make me feel a different way and provoke different thoughts and emotions track by track... obviously you like to listen to the same core emotions for an entire album.....

The Roots deserve it the most, although they had better albums in their career. I think Big Boi will get it.

Luda won RAP album of the year for Release Therapy. Mainstream appeal doesn't really have much to do with winning Album of the Year at the Grammys. Herbie Hancock won album of the year, but Kanye's album (which was nominated for the same award) sold more copies. There have been numerous occasions where an obscure album won album of the year. Another example is 50 Cent outselling OutKast, but Kast still won rap album of the year and Album of the Year.

Sans Bun B, Fat Joe and the last few songs on Recovery, yes.

Ahahaha.

Opinions are like asses, ass they say.

Irrelevant, but yes I do.

So your opinion > The Grammy committee AND thousands of other people?

Dunno bruh. Seems pretty pompous to me.

Uh...no.

No homo.

AHAHAHA

How can someone be completely unbiased when they already had a favorite in mind before they posted in this thread? Oh and

If you don't like Thank Me Later then you're lying

If you prefer Coke to Pepsi you're lying.

If you like a sports team other than the Washington Redskins you're lying.

Wow, being a prick is pretty easy.

I skip the Genesis every time I listen to Illmatic. So? Still a classic to me.

These forums really help me appreciate mainstream rap fans. When someone tries to convince me Wayne is the best rapper, they'll at least quote some lines and talk about sales. Internet niggas just go "UR RONG CUZ UR RONG AND UR RONG WHILE IM RITE"

Actually i'll take his opinion over the grammy's any day. I'm on a boat was nominated for a grammy. That is all I gotta say...

I been stopped caring about what the Source says even before Benzino left

but for the sake of the thread nothing that came out this year deserves five mics

It should be Big Boi or The Roots. Thank Me Later is 4.25ish at the most. Recovery aka Recoverrated shouldn't be rated over a 4/5 by anyone. Rick Ross' album....is a Rick Ross album lol. Wack. I haven't heard Bun B's or Fat Joe's yet, but doubt they'd come close though.

IMO the guest list on this album in no way OVERSHADOWS Ross. Let's explore this......

Free Mason- Ross more than held his own against Jay. The title is FREE MASON so why not put Jay on it, the conspiracy theorist WANTED this track, plus in the end the song is FIRE.... Shouldn't that be all that matters??

Tears of Joy- Ceelo provided nothing more than SOUL to this track. Ross carried the rest and did a damn good job. Bobby Seale on the rise......

MM3- since when has Ross NOT put other rappers on the maybach series??? It's the entire purpose of the track and guess what..... It's GOOD MUSIC

Live Fast Die Young- Kanye in VINTAGE FORM and Ross drops 2 great verses. "Im hot til the day ur day freezes"

Super High- Just another great collabo with Ross and a R&B singer on the hook

No.1- Again it's just DIDDY and Trey Songz. Diddy could easily be removed from this song and I wouldn't even notice

MC Hammer- Gucci actually hurts this song more than helps it.

BMF- Another BANGER Ross could have easily carried on his own.... Styles verse has grown on me but he is not needed, Ross just showing love

Aston Martin Music- Drake and Chrisette singing. Ross the only person RAPPING on this track

All the Money in the World- Again Raphael singin while Ross spittin......

So let's break it down........

Hook singers= John Legend, Ceelo, Trey Songz, Neyo, Raphael Saadiq, Chrisette Michelle, Drake, Eryka Badu

Rappers that are RAPPING- Jay Z, Jada, TI, Gucci, Kanye, and Styles

In the end it's a great product that's neither too long or too short and the collabos mostly ENHANCE the experience but Ross CARRIES the album. STOP BEING SO TECHNICAL AND JUST FEEL THE MUSIC.

TEFLON DON ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Well dayum...looks like you just shitted on their theory...wonder what they will say next?

If the Source wants to try to be somewhat relavent again, then the smart move is to give Recovery those 5 mics.
