I would say that he embraced all the things he used to criticize.

"But I can ain't even go act holier than thou

Cause fuck it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou

For a new watch, and I'd do it again..."

"Murder to Excellence" and "Made in America" are socially concious songs. Kanye is still speaking on real topics, I don't get where ya'll are coming from?

Riiiiii...

South Park labeled him a gay fish for no reason...

Nah b, he may have been on that shining Shit. But at least he wasn't all flamboyant with it and shit.

Everything he do now sound like it should be part of the birdcage soundtrack.

SMH, you act like he wasn't "FLAMBOYANT" when he 1st appeared on Def Poetry Jam, "This morning I spent a lot of time, picking out my clothes, imma be the best dressed rapper out in the game" ...remember that? -As far as him dressing differently, I know broke people who switch their style up, nothing wrong with it, when I finally make it, I'm copping more Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Kris Van Assche, & whatever else I think is dope, who wouldn't? -Money buys more options.

Riiiiiii

because this isn't the same dude who years ago went on about 100 rants over not winning awards for his shit.

On his first album, the disc was pink, and he dressed up like a teddy bear.

You niggas are reaching like crazy at this point

All Falls Down wasn't criticism IMO, it was him judging US as a people, that's why he says WE, in the song, he's well aware that he's part of the problem also, I think you missed the whole premise of the song, Lol -I mean think about the 1st verse, it basically sums it up.

c/s an album is like a canvas... making the same album over and over is like painting the same painting over and over... after the 1st time no matter how much u im-proved on the prior painting... the interest level will decline since u already painted that album ..

that's why most rappers fall off not only rappers but artists from a variety of music genre fall the fuck off... DMX,LUDA,KISS, etc.etc.

i think most artists get sucked in 2 the machine, and are afraid to change because they fill if they do then their fan base will turn on them ,as u see in this thread...

but i doubt Ye gives a fuck about fans, as u can see on how he constantly changes, musically and as a person as well

also Tupac is an artist , that comes 2 mind as a rapper who reinvent himself from album 2 album, all his albums's have different sound, different feel . different images as well...

Exactly, how many times have you listened to or purchased a new album from a well established artist, & been like WTF, this is just like the last album, no progression, no anything, you NEVER have to/or had to worry about that with Kanye. He's past the pinnacle of just a rap artist/ producer, also Timbaland, dude said he wasn't doing any rap songs for awhile, & produced everything from a new Chris Cornell album (which is dope BTW) ..to country music, steady progression is the theme. I for sure don't wanna hear ANY artist that constantly makes the same damn songs, over & over.

c/s to the fullest on a side note Luda did changed his style up on "release therapy" and "theater of the mind" ...

that's why Young Jeezy fell off... although he make good albums and tracks, all his album are the same...

although all his albums have diiferent feel; Rozay is gonna fall in 2 dat pit as well ,if he don't switch up his subject matter , but he done a nice job surrounding himself with different artists pills, meek, wale and stalley, he can bounce ideas off of,

I dont think he sold out or changed that much... Its just nowadays he has less to talk about so he resorts to bragging about shit he has and we dont. This too me as a fan, doesnt make for the most appealing listen.

Now with that being said, he has grown profoundly musically and has forced hip hop to embrace other genres, but his content just doesnt back it up anymore. I know exactly what to expect from Kanye lyrically nowadays and i am quite confident he wont exceed this expectations ever again in his career.

The hunger is still there, but the greed is overbearing

I honestly think Rozay has really changed up his style, flow, & everything else, I couldn't listen to him at 1st, but dude is really killing the game with his beat selections, the artists he is signing, I've always been a Stalley fan since MadStalley... (especially if he signs my dude Emilio Rojas), but Ross' flow is reaaaaal nice now, there's more depth to his lyrics, I thought I'd NEVER hear him spit a verse like he did on "Devil In A New Dress" or 'Ambition" & a few other tracks where he really is speaking on some stuff with substance to it, it's a dope change up from the dope lyrics & things of that sort.

Nah, Ye wasn't as flamboyant as he is now. You can't compare the to kanye's, cause back then he stood for something.

What did he stand for that he doesn't stand for now? Did you listen to the last album? Dude was touching on some real shit, same as WTT.

Y'all bring up some good points but at the end of the day it comes down to the fans. Once you reach a certain level you either fell off or you sound the same to the fans there's no balance it's either or. It's like when a flick drops and it's well recieved, then when they announce a sequel before the movie even hits you know ppl will call it wack no matter how dope it is. The Batman movie is a perfect example cuz the first joint barely got noticed and that's why the 2nd one was so well recieved and huge but now watch how they will nitpick and complain about any lil' thing on the next one. The expectations get ridiculous and it's hard for artists to do them cuz no matter what people complain once your audience is big and what happens is alot of artists then tries to please everybody and ends up droppin' one of those albums with joints for everybody and people still end up complainin' so they can't win no matter what. It's all about the short attention span of hip-hop fans and the power of popularity.

Also let's keep it funky people will let someone like Kanye do way more shit and give him way more freedom than say any other MC so it differs from artists to artists depending on your popularity and such.

I like both the "older" and "new" Kanye, but prefer '04-'06 Kanye artistically over the '07- present Kanye. The only differences in his music that I hear are:

1) He hasn't been the sole producer of his albums since College Dropout, which has greatly impacted the sound and direction of his music.

2) After Graduation, it seems the focus became less about being dope verses and beats and more about transcending.

His beats now with coproducers>>> a lot of the shit he did back then
his rhymes are better too imo
New tortured rockstar Kanye is a lot better than old black Kanye (s/o to birdcall lol) to me..
only thing he missing is the freshness of being the first mainstream dude in a while to not talk about drugs and guns as a major sound

Ill say the same with dre and his coproducers vs his solo work

this.......the differente between pre Grad ye and post grad ye is that post has incorporated more than just soul music to hip hop, it has incorporated a fuckloads of different music...MBDTF sounds so musical, its the reason critics love it(i think its a classic as well)...WTT was more of a MBDTF type sound with jay on it...looking foward to the good music album to see what he has in store....

People really overrate Kanye Wests artistry i mean really, dude is a good producer and an average rappers thats ithe ain't the first to do it and he won't be the last, funny how people always call Kanye a 'genius' yet never say the same of Q-Tip.
