A big reason why nas hasn't won a grammy is just circumstance. When he released Illamtic they didn't have A Hip Hop album of the year yet. When he released It Was Written he was going up against the Fugees who had basically taken over the world. Then he fell off. Then Stillmatic, God's Sons, and Hip Hop is dead all came out after the eligibility period. So he had to wait to the next year after the album had already been out for a long time and other music was more on peoples mind then his.

Nas dropped 1 so-called "commercial" album, and that was Nastradamus, even though I don't agree with that evaluation (word to cuts like Shoot em up, Life We Chose, Project Windows etc.) 1 commercial album out of 13 is pretty good. Especially when compared to other so-called legends.

Nas went platinum in 1 month with Nastradamus, so I don't know how his commercial efforts failed.

Also, to say Nas is in for the money is crazy, since there are an abundance of quotes out there that say/imply Nas didn't want to be looked at as a sell-out.

Only reason Nas aint doin commercial music is cause he aint built for that shit.

No. Nas doesn't run the same race as JayZ. JayZ is in the Wayne, Drake, Eminem, Ludacris race. He makes music for the sake of making money and increasing his brand.

In comparison, Nas makes music for the sake of making good music. He stays true to the art form by choice, and he knows the results of making pro-black, grown people music. He knows he's not going to sell as much as the artist who rides the "what's hot now" wave, so you can't feel sorry for him when he doesn't get the level of commercial success that the guys who are trying to get commercial success get.

Put Nas in the KRS-One, Lupe, Mos Def, Black Thought, Wu-Tang category. Not the major label, attention seeking list.
