The fact is, ALL of Hollywood's Black, leading men are old as fuck now. Eddie Murphy, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Chedle, Laurence Fishburne, Wesley Snipes. All too old. Who does that leave? Will Smith and Jamie Foxx...and honestly, them niggas pushing it too at 45 years old for this role. But those are the only options. Time for Hollywood to really start promoting a new crop of young, black actors in lead roles.

But the character itself could have been played by a gang of niggas. It was one of the least involved performances of the movie, in spite of being the title role.

Good question. The Steven/Uncle Ruckus one was obvious but I didn't know about the Django/Catcher Freeman. Not a big Boondock watcher but it would make sense.
Catcher Freeman freed slaves, Django talks down to slaves.
Django was playing the role that he and the dentist came up with so he can get his wife back. They discussed this in the film, in the dialogue. He had to do it cause he wanted to get his woman back. They both freed slaves though.
