2.) Shit makes perfect sense b. The whole point of the elaborate plan was to get Brunhilda (?) for the low low. Going to that white devil and making an outrageously claim meant that you would have to fulfill your part of the deal before you get the legal documents signing her over to you. Thus the whole plan of getting the desert honkey's interest by making a more then generous offer for a nigger fighter to mask getting brunhilda on sale.

I understand that. What i'm saying is there's nothing to prove Candie wouldn't have sold her for 3 bills anyway. He was letting the fighter go only for 12k because he was a prize mule and cashcow. Brumhilda was one of dozens of slave bitches in his possession. She, along with every other slave woman, wasn't worth shit. She was a repeat runaway slave who they put in a hotbox for a week to punish. How much worth you really think she had to them crackas?

There were good reasons they couldn't have just walked in there and bought Brumhilda. None of them had anything to do with the horse/farm metaphor.

Even assuming, for the sake of argument, the price would have been double for her had they been able to just walk in there and buy her - an extra $300 would have been worth not having to go through the whole charade and risk everyone's life (and eventually Schultz did lose his life). Not to mention that Candie would have sent someone after them when they didn't come back for the fighter. All that's not worth a few extra bills?

Bottom line, the movie's reasoning for not just buying her fell on its face on false logic and assumptions. Specially when there were other, better reasons they couldn't have done it. I'm not saying the shit ruined the movie, it didn't even bother me. I only brought the shit up in passing. Its only now turning into an argument.

I dunno, the movie was...okay. It had some issues that really knocked it down for me. Like, what was the point in the whole pretending shit anyway? They didn't even need that elaborate ass plan just to get Broomhilda back. Why didn't they just make a "ridiculous offer" for a slave girl instead of a fighter? Calvin said Broomhilda was only worth $300. She was new to his plantation and was already causing problems. Hell, Schultz and Django could've offered Calvin $6,000 for Broomhilda and Calvin would've been cool, plus they would've saved $6,000 themselves. Its not like they didn't have the money either way.

Also, this is a revenge story, but the people who originally enslaved, whipped, branded and separated Django and Broomhilda in the first place were never addressed. I know Calvin is horrible by default for being a slave owner...but, really...Django and Schultz brought the drama to him with lies and shit. Calvin was just a "honest" business man minding his own before they showed up.

So, those two things kinda took me out of the movie. Tarantino's films always have a very basic plot with interesting characters and dialogue, that's his thing, but Django's premise just didn't really work for me and yea, for a Tarantino film, the dialogue wasn't all that great. Still good, just...compared to his other films, lacking. Same goes for the action. A couple shootouts in a 3 hour movie. Okay.

I'd still recommend seeing it. DiCaprio, Sam L. Jack and Christoph Waltz had the best performances. It didn't feel like 3 hours, so it was definitely entertaining, but no where near his best. Gotta say, movie is being overrated.

Just watched the movie, wtf was this midget Spike Lee up in arms about? It wasn't just random use of the n word for the fuck of it, it actually had context with that time period.

Anyways, Sam Jackson was funny as shit in that movie, straight Uncle Ruckus shit.

The ending was dope though, Django was bodying niggas. Shout out to that German nigga for going out like a G.

Calvin was not opposed to selling Brumhilda. She was for sale. He gave no fucks about her, the way the farmer in the metaphor gave a fuck about his horse. She was a slave bitch, of which he had dozens. The only reason Schultz couldn't have bought her straight up is because riding across states for one slave girl is suspect and would have raised flags.

We both agree he couldn't have just rode in there to buy her. Thats not the argument. I'm just disagreeing with the particular reason the movie gave and giving another.

I asked the same question someone else did about why they didnt just go in to buy Brumhilda. My guess is it would have too suspicious to ask about her right away. Who rides 5 days to buy a single slave girl?
