I think Dr Johnson and Dr Cosby's circumstances are different...

With that being said, they should be allotted a certain amount of 'support' given their contributions.

It would be easy for black to say 'you fucked up, now u have to take a seat'... Instead of joining the 'lynch mob' trying to erase all of Cosby's good work.

We live in a country with several monuments built to honor thieves, Pirates, slavers, and rapists. We should be mature enough to separate the good works from the despicable acts. Cosby's work has to be worth something.

I wouldn't say that Umar and Cosby stuck their necks out for black people.......

Cosby certainly provided opportunities.....

However, it is nothing out of the ordinary for a person who held his status......

A lot of people would say that he should have done more.........

Umar was faking moves anyways.......

And then there's this. It seems like no matter what certain people do, they always "should have done more"

This is only an issue when people have a Messiah complex when dealing with brothers and sisters. I will say that Umar Johnson's situation is different than Bill Cosby's.....

Umar can bounce back from that...Bill Cosby is finished though.

But, despite their personal "demons", the work that they have done should still be praised. Stop forgetting these are humans capable of stumbling.

Indeed.....

"Equally intriguing is the leap of faith one must make in granting Cosby revered status as a racial spokesman and critic. He has famously demurred in his duties as a racial representative. He has flatly refused over the years to deal with blackness and color in his comedy. Cosby was defensive, even defiant, in his views, as prickly a racial avoider as one might imagine for a man who traded so brilliantly on dimensions of black culture in his comedy."

Most people have no idea who Umar is so just due to that alone hes not catching the same slack as Cosby. Also hes not a rapist (at least as far as I know).

Cosby is a veteran of the generation wars. Dude was sneak dissing Eddie Murphy 30 years ago and since then he has waged a non-stop attack on black youth which includes parenting. He has excused the murder of black youths and depicted them as illiterate thieves and thugs. This isnt to say Cosby has been all bad, we constantly hear about how he took the children he worked with under his wing and gave them all opportunities.

Its clearly an incredibly mixed bag when it comes to Cosby and the black community.

In closing, neither has done enough worth ignoring basic common sense for, preaching about morality while doing dirt behind closed doors makes you at best a hypocrite but at the same time you have to accept the good with the bad, nobody is or can be perfect.

I dont think that Umar can bounce back without addressing his curriculum vitae.......

Or the lack thereof.....

This nigga rebranded his thread. lol

You cant throw dirt on people lying in mud... im speaking in general here

and just because a segment of white people support their lowest of the low should we.. why should we want to become them... we shouldnt go by their standard.

and another thing stop deifying people.

And Eddie Murphy has issues just like everyone has issues. I think the focus is too much on Cosby and not on the fact that we set impossible standards for our people while setting none for white people so we're quick to shit on another black person and forgive white people in the same breath.

Look at somebody like Robert Downey Jr or Mickey Rourke. They both did ALL the drugs in the 80s(and I'm sure they fucked many many chicks when all parties were drunk/high) and hollywood(white people) REFUSED to just toss them in the trash MULTPLE TIMES. They're both getting PAID right now and they've been built back up to where they're basically only making blockbusters and oscar films now

This is why I'm gonna defend Cosby until somebody can produce some solid proof. If someone can do that then I would have no problem admitting that I was wrong

Everything doesnt need to be defended.. Every situation isnt the same. There is more than one messenger.

Stop comparing and contrasting to what white people do as a copout

The reason 'white people' are being referenced is that it doesn't benefit 'us' to engage in destroying Cosby's legacy.

The theory is that it discourages ppl from fighting for 'us' because any flaw will be used to destroy them.

I'm not suggesting turning a blind eye to something as serious as rape but I am suggesting that cats think twice about allowing all of Cosby's 'good work' to be diminished or erased.

You can do 99 things right and the only thing people remember is the one thing you did wrong. Black folks want a magical savior to fight their battles for them, but will step aside and let dude get shot when shit gets thick. Ain't no loyalty in these ingrates and usually they've done no where near the same amount of work the person their throwing stones at has done.

They'd sooner rob, get jealous, and talk shit. Niggas can get real selfish and hater like when it comes to seeing other blacks achieve success. Especially, if that person isn't given them any handouts.

He's already bounced back because the people who make up his support base really don't give a fuck about this so called scandal. He's right back on lecture tour doing everything he was before

You basically just posted a bunch of vague generalities. If you want a serious response you should probably get a little more specific

And you definitely should elaborate on the bold because that statement seemed kinda ignorant

Yea....

Some people will support him regardless......

It seems like there is a segment of the "conscientious" crowd that do not care about credentials.......

I am a nationally certified educator.......

If a nigga ever questioned me about my professional credentials, I would gladly pull it out......

It is public record anyways.......

If you are trying to gain trust in order to educated "black boys" or any other demographic.......

You should be prepared to show your CV........

Mr. Shoemaker has yet to do so.........

That had no acceptance certificate........

If it was even his.......

No, Jermaine Shoemaker.....

Don't give these crackers ammo to tear you down and definitely don't talk shit when you have your own issues that could potentially get put on front street. Black people shouldn't be partaking in the tearing down of a black man. Because 2 things whites don't treat their own like this when they fuck up and the 2nd thing is that Cosby used his platform to tear down blacks to the approval of crackers. So if he could do it to us, then why can't it be done to him?
