so the concept people don't understand is that it's not "i am going to pack a gun to go buy jeans," it's that "i carry a gun on a regular basis, and when confronted by a store that prohibits carry, i have several bad options.

Right, they never seem to be around when someone actually gets loose, like at Sandy Hook, that theater in Colorado or any of the bases where someone spazzes out , they just want to have it on them in case a nigga starts looking too "sketchy"(that's another one of their new words for us) in Target. actually, it's not. the incident he's referencing involved a handgun, and if he wanted to call out rifles specifically, he could easily have phrased it like "please refrain from open carrying a long gun into our stores, thanks."
