After maybel got hit I was done I couldn't even look at the screen I started to stare into space as if I was watching her soul drift off into the heavens and when they showed harrow lying there that was the final nail in the coffin.

Can you imagine if it went down as plan, it would of been like watching your favorite football team make the winning touchdown at the superbowl. It would of been Harrows most memorable and final hit, I think it would of hit home more than
when walter took out those nazis
. Nonetheless this was still a good yet tragic episode.

Maybel the angel

Ayo FUCK HBO for makin Black people fall in love with the nigga who would eventually help the Feds sabotage Marcus Garvey's plans for Black liberation. Narcisse went from "my nigga my nigga" to "this BITCH ASS NIGGA...." quick last night. smmfh.

So them revealing that he was just a dude that peddled drugs to his own people and killed/brainwashed black women wasn't enough to end your love for him? Some of ya'll are weird as hell. lol

towards the end I was thinkin Eli needs to call the vacuum cleaner guy from breaking bad. lol

and ask for the "deluxe super cleaner N17 special.' or whatever Saul called it.

just watched it. fucking gay. Eli shoulda died. Narcisse definitely shoulda got fucked up. Richard dying is the worst death since Jimmy, although right now in this moment, Jimmy's hurt worse. my two favorite characters though. fuck. i swore i wouldnt be interested after Jimmy got killed, but i kept watching and im sure it'll still be great after Richard, but it sucks right now.

Not that he didn't lay down a whole house full of people at the end of last season....

....but in this situation I don't know how Harrow would have made it out alive even if he did kill Narcisse. He didn't look like he had a good escape route

Richard could got out of there when he realized he shot may belle he waited there.

It's just so sad to me cause Richard just wanted his humanity back after losing it. He finally gets it, then he gets it taken away, then he dies.

When did you find out that Richard was getting killed off?

I was told on that episode. You find out right before it happens. When there’s a call saying, "Terry [Winter, Boardwalk Empire creator]'s looking for you," you’re prepared for it. It’s funny, it’s something I’ve been talking about for a while, just sort of openly. With [director] Tim Van Patten, and Howard [Korder, producer] and Terry, we were always a bit concerned about where Richard could go. I mean, I was meant to do three episodes and I’ve ended up going a full four seasons, whatever it is – it’s amazing how far we went. We explored so much with him. This season he gave up killing, and he sort of did that a bit before and then he came back and took the boy – and you don’t want to regurgitate the same story. He actually found love, he found a family and the only thing that could happen, for the greater good, for the show and for the character, was that he die, tragically, because he was a tragic character. I think they wrote the most unbelievably beautiful ending, and it made so much sense. I was honored by the ending rather than upset. I was very, very touched. I was very happy that Richard was going to go out the way he was, and while people still loved him.

Never knew about the bolded

Same thing they did with Omar on The Wire he was supposed to be around a few episodes then get killed... Ended up almost being around until the end.

im happy they did NOT kill off Narcisse. I feared they might fall into that Dexter formulaic trap of killing the seasons "Big Bad" every season finale.

even tho, they are not related the sit down with Narcisse and Chalky made me think of the Omar and Brother Mouzone scene...

Omar: "You kill him?"

Brother Mouzone: "He's resting."

reflecting, we as an audience were wrong (especially me) for wanting the return of Harrow Season.

I mean, why were we clamoring for "The Harrowing"?

When you ride for a character, you want what they want.

We wanted Chalky to get the club on the boardwalk. Cuz that's what he wanted.

We wanted Capone to get the keys to the empire... cuz that's what he wanted.

We wanted Van Alden to show his G-ness, cuz that's what he wanted.

But Harrow, he wanted to bow out gracefully and put the guns away.

But what did we want? his to bust guns.

So the writers, made us feel like shit for wanting that.

He was the most pure character, who went out in the worst way.

He finally had his shot.

But, he got publically humiliated at trial.

Realized he was no longer good at what he was only good at.

Murdered an innocent kid.

Died bleeding out alone, never to see his family again.

He also lied to the woman he never had to lie to.

Damn.

TVLINE | Speaking of unhappy endings, as I was watching Gillian’s redemptive arc unfold this season I had a bad feeling it wasn’t going to end well.

[Laughs] Right.

TVLINE | This was the first season I actually felt sympathy for her. Talk to me about the decision to pull back those layers at this point in her story.

[We wanted to] get to the core of why she became who she was. And when the hammer did fall you wanted people to feel something for her. Or at least understand that character. If anybody has bad things coming to them, certainly Gillian has done some horrible things. I wanted to paint a more complete picture of who she was, and remind people that this is not somebody who was just born evil. She’s had a horrible life herself and is an extremely complicated, sad person. It also made things more complicated for Roy Phillips [Ron Livingston] doing his job. I think he really did truly care for her, whether or not it was love I don’t know. Certainly, when he says, “You’re a very strong woman,” [it's clear] he really does respect her. And has grown to at least understand her. But he’s extremely principled and had a job to do; and he did the job.

TVLINE | You put a lot of emphasis this season on Gillian’s year-old murder of one-night-stand Roger, while so gillian boardwalk empiremany other murders — the majority committed by male characters — rarely get as much attention. What was different about this particular crime?

This guy was completely innocent. A lot of the people who get killed on this show are criminals themselves — not that that’s a justification for murder. Roger [was killed] merely so Gillian could move the chess pieces around. The worst you could accuse this kid of is greed… maybe he was thinking he was getting a good deal with this woman. He certainly didn’t deserve to be killed for it.

TVLINE | Is this the end of Gillian’s story?

No. She’s a terrific character and Gretchen is a joy to work with. We will certainly see more of her in Season 5.

TVLINE | Will all the progress she’s made be undone now that she’s been hurt and betrayed like this?

Remains to be seen. It will be a new chapter in Gillian’s story. We’ll learn more about who Gillian is and what makes her tick as Season 5 progresses.

TVLINE | Let’s say Will doesn’t walk into that room, does Nucky pull the trigger and kill Eli?

Absolutely. Will showing up saved Eli’s life.

TVLINE | This isn’t the end of Eli’s story either, is it?

No.

TVLINE | Where does the Eli-Nucky dynamic go from here?

They will continue to have a relationship and they have things in common in their extended family. And they certainly have business interests in common. They will continue to be in each other’s worlds. How [what transpired in the finale] affects them emotionally and what the real feelings are remains to be seen.

TVLINE | Will Jeffrey be back next season?

Yes. We will see Narcisse back next season. That storyline has not concluded.

They better have Marcus Garvey in the series next season.

I can't be the only one who read this article in the Richard Harrow voice....

Why did Hoover want a black man to go down for killing Tolliver/Knox instead of Eli?

Does that mean Eli is really scott free for that?

And I guess Nucky chose to leave Sally in tampa?

Leverage.....He wants information on Marcus Garvey so he was going to pin the murder on Narcisse if he didn't cooperate.....its pretty damn easy to frame a black man in the 1920s
