i think its more then that;a genre that promotes the street life aka doing illegal things , then by a side effect promotes the stealing of that very music

Plus rappers like to flaunt their "wealth", and consumers figure "well he got all of these cars and jewels why should i buy the album, hes rich already"

Country fans tend toi be older people, old people have expandable money to spend. Hiphop has young fans who are broke and computer saavy.

thats a poor excuse. kids have parents who camp out to buy them concords and galaxy foams, and buy them iphones and imacs so i know they have 9 bucks to spend on an album for them. if the music is really as good as these artist are making it out to be, it would sell better. People just arent feeling the music like that right now

It's extaly what the last poster said when you have a genre of music where all they talk about is how much money they got how much pussy you get, you make it sound like you don't need the money you already made it so why am I Gona give you 9 more bucks

But lets be honest even them country albums outside of a few artists arent selling well. Rock is even worse than hip hop for first week and sales over time if you look at the last 3 years of rock. Rookie J. Cole not only outsold famous punk rockers blink 182 he also still has more sold than they do after the first week.

People quick to blame rap fans for bootlegging but them white folks that had limewire and napster did the same shit. Just like hip hop you got sold out country concerts where honestly half the crowd bootleged the album. Them country concerts shut down hartford and they all sellout shows but most of them artists overall have shitty album sales outside like a taylor swift. Bootlegging goes past hip hop.

The only people that need your record-sale money is white-skinned people in suits at the record label.

Artists don't make any money off record sales they make money doing shows, touring, concerts, publishing, endorsements, and investments.

Record sales won't feed your family just ask TLC, a rapper can rap about money money money and people are still going to pay money money money to see them perform.

Truth i bootleg every genre, but people just want new stuff. J.Cole sold what he did because despite being extremely corny, he is somewhat refreshing for keeping it somewhat real. Bands like Blink 182 are washed up and still making the same music they made in 2002.

Good music sells, not good genres.

No 1 Rock album did 200K+ and that is linkin park. Maroon 5 is not a rock band they are a pop top 40 band who wishes they were rock but all they really make now is pop music hence why they sold so much...that song with wiz is not rock at all. Next linkin park made a pretty dope album that has elements of hip hop electronic and nu metal in it and they are one of the few bands that is not only world wide but survived the death of rock music.

Traditional rock bands for the most part aren't getting decent sales and even the maroon 5's and coldplays which have more of a pop audience now have seen sharpy declines in their album sales as well in recent years compaired to 5-10 years ago.

All genres have people downloadin for free. this aint 1998 no more. Sales are generally down in every genre. I question the motives/background of people who try so hard to discredit this genre that pays young black people.

Damn those numbers are terrible. I don't think people should measure success on album sales anymore, becuz nowadays people buy singles instead of albums. Like for example, Tyga's song "Rack City" went platinum, but his album has yet to even reach gold. I think album sales are misleading as far as measuring how popular a artist is. That would be like using single certifications of rappers in the '90s as a measurement of popularity instead of their album sales. Like for example, Snoop's song "Gin & Juice" is a Gold single. If u was to just measure his popularity on that song certification, and ignore the fact that his alum went 4x Plat, u would be mislead into thinkin that Snoop is only a gold artist. My point is, in the 90's, people bought albums more than singles, and now, people buy singles more than albums and it's a different way od measurin a artists' success.
