C/s yall tryna turn it into what rappers came out when but the topic of the thread is the music that came out in the 2000's vs the music that came out in the 90"s and hiphop i the 2000's is better. Yes the 90's influenced the 2000's but that doesnt mean they are better

Basically. Hip Hop never declined. It just evolved.

Now whether or not niggas chose to evolve with it, is their problem.

Too much quality hip hop has been made in the 00's for me to make the proclamation that it has declined.

Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame are not the entire representation of what hip hop was like this past decade.

The quality IS there...you just have to get over your elitest attitude.

as far as production i'll give you 00>>>>>90's, sonically it has evolved across the board due to technological advancements, basically what i'm saying is the beats are better, always continue to get better year to year, and yes lyrically you do have some emcee's who are ahead of what most emcee's where doing in the 90's, but if you look at it from a broader perspective, (and i hate lumping all rappers of certain era's together) the hip hop being made now especially in the mainstream can't hold a candle to what was being made in the 90's. you do have your hidden gems but they aren't getting shine in the mainstream because it has taken a turn for the worse.

I guess it would depend on how you define quality. And keep in mind that the climate, altogether, has declined. It isn't just within in hip hop circles. It spans across ALL genres.

Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem, Common, etc have all released high quality work this past decade, that was also mainstream accessible.

There's been great variety, but you just have to know where/how to look for it.

no doubt thats why i stressed the mainstream, (which you should never rely on for quality music) isn't what it used to be, the reason why i say mainstream is that is some of the only contact that your average rap consumer will have with hip hop. I also stated that you do have your hidden gems too, but in general the hip hop genre isn't close to being the force it was in the 90's , you can dice it how you want.

i do agree though that the entertainment genre as a whole has fallen off, just like movies we have better special effects and what not, better promotions, but most of the writing (scripts) is shitty.

Has mainstream hip hop REALLY died, though? Or, are elitests just stuck in the past, choosing to remain stagnant?

You can't really dismiss the quality music that hip hop has produced, on a mainstream level, this past decade without sounding bitter.

I will put the likes of what Kanye, Eminem, Common, Jay-Z, 50, etc have done in the 00's up against anything that happened during the 90's.

Lupe Fiasco sticks out like a sore thumb in mainstream hiphop cause he embraces lyricism and rejects being in it solely for the money and countless other 2000s stereotypes. He's the exception that proves the rule.

The fact that we throw rose petals at this nigga's feet for rapping like he had at least a highschool education is a big enough L for the 2000s. (Among countless others)

tru....................but dude is nice..........he woulda Fit in well in the 90's......

If 2000's was better than in the 90s, than why in the year 2010, there hasn't been one album released even wemt gold yet... If 2000's music was so powerful and made such an impact on the generation that grew up on it, then why the year after the decade in 4 months there hasn't even been an album released that has done even impressive numbers...

Meanwhile, when the 90s ended, that next year Nelly sold 8 milllion, Eminem sold 9 Million, Jay-Z wasn the first artist of the decade to have a #1 album on the 200 album charts, DMX sold 5 million, Outkast sold 4 million, even groups that had no crossover appeal like three six mafia down south and reflection eternal were going platinum.

So what decade does it looked like succeeded more in satisfying their fans with quality music, enough to keep them going to the store and buying albums?
