Y'All Seen This? Nicki Minaj Calls Steven Tyler's Comment Racist on Twitter

to sum it up: tyler said in a roundabout way that nicki is incapable of truly judging actual artistic talent

sounds factual to me...when you're lucky--not talented--which is what minaj is...it seems like it would be difficult to be a good judge of talent in others...

btw: in today's politically correct environment the race card is sometimes used as a classic way to dismiss someone's assertions and deflect away from the fact that you're either too untelligent to coherently respond or that you're just too afraid of the truth

call someone a racist, sexist, homophobe etc = easiest way to get out of an actual debate

just sayin

You are right in a way.... But I think Nicki was reacting to a pattern of behavior she saw in ST.... And when he came at her she just flew out with dubbing it racism. The fact is she CAN use that argument and it can be valid if she has correct examples of why it's racism (or other general hate tactics) but she has a loss and no examples of him doing anything else toward her. So instead she's wound up making herself look even stupider in the end. And she's essentially proven his point. And the band plays on.

Nicki minaj connects with young black girls and young gay black men.... so it's not just white kids.

She calls her gay fans Kens.

Just your average idiot.

it's a wonder that they still know how to breathe.

Are you sure she doesnt call them KillaChams...

I can't front, I kinda agree with those being racist comments. Racism is subtle like that. Exactly what reason would Steven Tyler have to assume that she wouldn't like Bob Dylan?

She be on 100% all the time with the way she handle shit, but I gotta agree with her position on this one.

So your saying that no white person can ever criticize a black person without being racist.

I don't see where I've said that in any post. Nope, couldn't find it anywhere.

Sure you did. You didn't give one reason why Steven Tyler's tweet was racist. Nope couldn't find it anywhere.

Show me where I said a white person cannot criticize a black person without it being racist.

You assumed that Tyler's tweet was racist. So it's fair to assume from your post that it's impossible for a white person to crtisize a black person without it being racist.

Definitely not the case. Nice try though.

When a person makes a statement about someone, you automatically wonder about their motivations and reason, unless they explicitly state them or they're very clear. For example, if you were to randomly come up to me on the streets and say 'You're a bitch!' and I slapped the shit outta you, the motivation and reason for my action is quite clear. But if I randomly slapped the shit outta you for no reason, with no provocation, and did not explain why I felt the need to slap the shit outta you, you're left to try to figure out why. You'd look at the situation, analyze why I did it.

Steven Tyler said she wouldn't fuck with Bob Dylan. He didn't say why he felt like that or what lead him to draw that conclusion. We are left to try to determine that on our own. It's a common misconception that black people don't like soft rock or folk music. Skin color is the most basic of identifying features, especially in this country. So it stands to reason that he would use that as the basis of his remarks, since he supplied no reasoning for them, they are not evident and it's already a common misconception. So...there you go.

A ton of the time, when a white person criticizes a black person, the reasons are very evident. When they are not, and they don't specific why they feel the way they feel...well, you get the idea.

Make sense?

Yes it makes sense, you made an assumption based on your own misconception about Steven Tyler. You assumed that because he is white and crtisized Nicki he is racist. This is strictly based because of YOUR assumption about a racist generalization that you decided that he was being racist. You are making a racist assumption based on your own assumptions.

You're missing the point. The point that YOU brought up. But cool.

there was slight racist shade in that comment though, lets not play dumb

steven tyler thinks black people don't like folk music, which is where the bob dylan comment came from

as if nicki's incapable of enjoying someone like dylan because of her skin color

lets not play dumb. if you've ever been to a rock show or had an in depth conversation about rock with a white person, the amazement on their faces is hilarious.

True. My question is why did he say that? Maybe she was being too harsh on a contestant and he used that analogy saying she wouldn't know talent if it stared her in the face. Or did he say it randomly? Either way she pulled that race card hella quickly, shit wasn't even that serious.

she did jump to the race card quickly, shows she walks around with that motherfucker up her sleeve all day.

Looked further into it, and this is the full quote from Tyler

"These [contestants], they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere, and they're in New York City. They're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]. If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with [me and J.Lo], we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just sayin'."

Meaning, Nicki wouldn't know what to do with an artist music wise, which is true seeing her own critical failures as a musician. He just so happened to offhandedly mention Bob Dylan. But he basically said what everyone's been saying about Minaj going to Idol: she's just there for the ratings, not to help the artists.

quoted for dumb niggas who didn't read

No, you've been backed into a corner that you can't get out of. There was nothing racial or racist in anything that Tyler said. You made an assumption and that assumption has backfired. Thats all it is.

Backed into a corner? Lol. Here is the point the YOU brought that I disputed, with logic...that you did not disagree with:

You said that I said that a white person cannot criticize a black person without begin racist. I told you that I did not say that. I told you WHY I said what I said, and then gave you and example that illustrates what I said...and a very detailed example of one of the millions of the times when a white person can criticize a black person without it being racist.

You know...the point that YOU brought up. You gotta try harder than that, man. If you wanna try to have a logical discussion about it, let's go point by point and get on the same page, bro. You set 'em up...I'll knock 'em down.
