I can't front, I kinda agree with those being racist comments. Racism is subtle like that. Exactly what reason would Steven Tyler have to assume that she wouldn't like Bob Dylan?

When a person makes a statement about someone, you automatically wonder about their motivations and reason, unless they explicitly state them or they're very clear. For example, if you were to randomly come up to me on the streets and say 'You're a bitch!' and I slapped the shit outta you, the motivation and reason for my action is quite clear. But if I randomly slapped the shit outta you for no reason, with no provocation, and did not explain why I felt the need to slap the shit outta you, you're left to try to figure out why. You'd look at the situation, analyze why I did it.

Steven Tyler said she wouldn't fuck with Bob Dylan. He didn't say why he felt like that or what lead him to draw that conclusion. We are left to try to determine that on our own. It's a common misconception that black people don't like soft rock or folk music. Skin color is the most basic of identifying features, especially in this country. So it stands to reason that he would use that as the basis of his remarks, since he supplied no reasoning for them, they are not evident and it's already a common misconception. So...there you go.

A ton of the time, when a white person criticizes a black person, the reasons are very evident. When they are not, and they don't specific why they feel the way they feel...well, you get the idea.

Yes it makes sense, you made an assumption based on your own misconception about Steven Tyler. You assumed that because he is white and crtisized Nicki he is racist. This is strictly based because of YOUR assumption about a racist generalization that you decided that he was being racist. You are making a racist assumption based on your own assumptions.

True. My question is why did he say that? Maybe she was being too harsh on a contestant and he used that analogy saying she wouldn't know talent if it stared her in the face. Or did he say it randomly? Either way she pulled that race card hella quickly, shit wasn't even that serious.

she did jump to the race card quickly, shows she walks around with that motherfucker up her sleeve all day.

Looked further into it, and this is the full quote from Tyler

"These [contestants], they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere, and they're in New York City. They're scared to death; you're not going to get the best [out of them]. If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with [me and J.Lo], we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just sayin'."

Meaning, Nicki wouldn't know what to do with an artist music wise, which is true seeing her own critical failures as a musician. He just so happened to offhandedly mention Bob Dylan. But he basically said what everyone's been saying about Minaj going to Idol: she's just there for the ratings, not to help the artists.

i don't think Steve Tyler said black people don't like folk music. Bob Dylan was in fact inspired by blues musicians and black musicians. So to assume this is way weird on your part. Tyler implied Minaj is not capable of understanding Dylan.

He's said racist stuff in the past and I think she partly lashed out on that to be honest. I don't think this comment he made was racist, and I don't know if Steven Tyler is in fact a racist. But I don't think based on this comment that Steven Tyler thinks black people can't appreciate folk, blues, or country.

Also you have assumed white people who listen to rock music think that black people can't appreciate anything beyond rap, which is insulting to me.
