Would Nas be the GOAT without "ETHER"?

Nah, u putting words in my post...I never said that casual listeners was the end all be all, I simply factored it in and said that it's a landslide in favor of Hov, therefore he wins.

On most hip hop forums, mostly comprised of virgins, weirdos and pedophiles, Nas a prolly get the edge, slightly, just off the strength of Illmatic and Ether, but still many have Hov right there with him, it ain't a no brainer type of situation...once we hit that red X in the right top corner it's a whole diff story...cuz I ain't never met a nigga IRL that had Nas being better than Hov...matter fact most of the south don't even fuck wit Nas like that, he's an east coast legend tbh.

Yo you're leaving out the only thing that matters and that personal opinion..... Shyt boils down to what people like....Kool G Rap is #2 on my list and sun prolly never went gold.... I've met people that prefer Jadakiss, Talib Kweli, Tupac and DMX over Nas and Jay....My little cousin thinks that Lil Wayne is the best rapper ever.... When I lived out west, E40, Snoop, Cube and Spice One to name a few were mentioned.......Maybe you're limited to a small circle or something....Sun as much as you be in here shytting on the south, you going to resort to that?....So let me get this straight, you're known around the world but some nigga says one section of a country doesnt fuck with you like that equates to being local? lol....Think I'm bout done......lol...Cats will say anything...lol

Its really all a matter of opinion but its noteworthy that if you take a poll on an internet message board where people dialogue about Hip Hop Nas always wins the poll.

Yeah this is useless, it's all subjective.

So let's deal with things that aren't, Hov sold more records than him, has more #1 albums than him, has more albums than him in a shorter time period, is more relevant in the mainstream than he ever was, fucked his BM, has more money than him in less years in the game, and was his boss at a time...so yea, no more "opinions" just the cold hard facts from now on....word.

Em and Pac sold more records than Hov......Jay's money hasnt done anything for you...lol once again this shyt is useless b....Its about the music...word.....

Nah, nah, nah, stop it, lyrics and music are "subjective" like u said before...u might think GZA is nice, I might think he's garbo, I might think Fab is the best emcee to come out of BK, u might think he's the worst to come out of NYC... so lets deal with facts and things that cant be denied....oh, Nawz fans dont ever wanna speak on anything factual lmaooooo, cuz thats when they'll lose, no question....instead they rather give their shitty and irrelevant OPINIONS...FOH.

Hov the GOAT, or at least higher on the totem pole than Nawz....until u can 'factually' prove otherwise...suck a fat baby's d*ck...word.

OK so the fact is that if you made a poll right now on a Hip Hop message board Nas wins every time.

Jay Z appeals to Top 40 fans.

Nas tripped up and was going through some things. The release of Nastradamus was a debacle, but that doesn't mean that Nas wouldn't have gotten it together with his level of skills.

@ 5 Grand you can't use a vote on the IC or any hip hop board cuz most of use are always gonna go for the under dogs... In the eyes of most under ground hip hop heads jay is too big and whether niggas wanna admit it or not his success plays apart in why niggas DONT like him...

Sales really are the biggest factor if u gonna call someone the undisputed GOAT. if u gonna seperate who is the GOAT from just being an opinion. Then only sales can be the meassuring point who has sold the most records then has to be. Otherwise it just is an opinion. When it comes to sales Nas falls extremley short compared to the best sellers

To be the GOAT u have to maintain relevance ur whole career...cant be irrelevant from 99'-01', and then irrelevant again from 01'-06'...thats just too much irrelevance lol...then again from 06'-12'....been in the game 20 years and been relevant maybe 8 of those years, yet he's the "undisputed GOAT" smh

To be the GOAT, all hip hop fans have to fuck wit u, all demographics, ethnicities and age groups, not just dusty black old niggas age 27-40...u the GOAT but yet the avg 21 year old a barely acknowledge ur existence? FOH.

SN....Nas rarely does any features so in between mediocre albums the man really is the epitome of irrelevance, he be ghost, u cant hear from him...while the real GOAT makes sure he's relevant even in between albums.

So you saying 94-99 nas wasn't revelant ? The only weak lp was the 4th joint and it still had 7 to 8 dope joints outta 14. Then you have the stillmatic ,god son, hhid, lost tapes, sd etc. The shit was Damien Qb's finest, the firm. The man stays in his lane nas never flooded the market. And still he's considered the goat or top 3. Think about that. With minimum effort he's been the talk of who's the best in rap since he came in the game.

No im saying from 99'-01'...but let me clarify, after 'It was written' he was semi irrelevant/irrelavant til 'Stillmatic' came out ('I Am' was a mediocre album and 'Nastradamus' was trash)...after 'Stillmatic' he fell into obscurity again until he got desperate and was trolling and into gimmicks (naming his album 'Nigga' and 'HHID'), for without the controversial album title that album goes nowhere and his career is damn near over lol (album was mediocre/wack btw).

Now after that album, the man hasnt made anything that remotely interested the general public lmao...and as far as quality wise, was subpar as well...we had to wait til 2012 with 'LIG' to get qualoty work from him, and again, to the public and casual listeners, that album came and went.

There are many variables when determining the GOAT, lyricism is just one component (and he's not even the best lyricist), and also his strong suit, but he lacks at all the other components...u cant say Reggie (Nas) was better than MJ (Hov) cuz he was the superior shooter...u have the gauge everything, and thats when MJ trumps Reggie, and Jay trumps Nawz....word.

Yo, I Am sold like 2.5 mill solid album, Nastradamas plat plus AVG album....QB Finest went Gold......Shyt if thats irrelevant you got some crazy ass standards.....lol

Doggy, u could burp and cough on a record in that era and go plat, so dont bring up sales to me anytime before 2005 becuase it wouldnt be impressive....and lol at going Gold in that era....sad.

As for I Am, after he dropped 'Hate me now', he, and that album was irrelevant to the general public, that 'Nas is like' single made no noise outside of hip hop heads and Nawz stans.

To put it in perspective, no casual listener cared about anything he put out between 'Hate me now' and 'Ether' lol...facts....Jay has never had that long of a period being so dormant.

lol cmon b, tell that shyt to the hundreds of rappers that released albums during that time that didnt.....So dont mention sales prior to 05, but you mention casual listeners? lol iight....Back then after like 1 to 1.5 mill sold, guess what most of those people were? finish this homey...lol c_s_al li_t_n_rs......lol

That's the whole thing, there are more casual listeners than hip hop elitists...and that's why Nas isnt, and never will be the GOAT, he only appeals to hip hop heads, where in that demographic he slightly edges out Jay...but as far as casual listeners go it's a landslide in favor of Jay, thus making him the GOAT...now what?

GQ and all them fashion publishers and blogs have ppl like Ye, Cudi, 3k and the like, as the most fashionable ppl in hip hop...but to me and you, casual dressers, they look like idiots lmao...so in actuality when they step out, for every 20 ppl they pass by, maybe 4 are fashionistas and are impressed by em, the other 16 are laughing at em...well when u step out, that's how it is with Hov and Nawz...16 to 4, with the 4 bein some elitist hip hop nerds...word.

Hov the peoples champ...facts.

By your logic, Eminem's the GOAT.

Not really. Most of his albums went platinum and he has a couple of multi-platinum plaques.

No matter how weak people may have thought Nastradamus was if you have a conversation with some real rap heads and not just pop fans about who maybe the greatest of all time Nas`s name along wit Pac will come up just by the substance of there subject matter in their classic catalog alone. They made more vivid songs that touched more people on personal level and Nas getting compared to Rakim when he first came out was bigger buzz than Jay ever generated dispite Jay selling more albums to a bunch of white kids. Nas has lots of authentic hip hop classics songs that he didnt have to STEAL BIGGIES lyrics to make em either

But compared to the highest sellers like Em, Pac, 50, B.I.G, Kanye. Nas sales aren't touching their sales. U compare Nas sales to the highest selling rapper ever there is a huge difference in sales Nas ain't sold even as half as much. There's a difference of atleast 60, 70 million. Nas definitley has been out sold by a lotta rappers

But if you tally up every rap record that's ever been released his sales are probably in the top 1%
