Heavy emphasis of abstinence has never worked to deter pregnancy and disease. In fact, states with an absence of comprehensive sex education programs have higher rates of unintended pregnancy and STIS.
No, it's a lack or morals and ethics. What is hard to hold yourself out, that shows a lack of self control. Self control is always an option because we have the cognitive ability to do so.
People are sexual creatures who have sexual urges. Abstinence doesn't make a person more moral or ethical than others than those that choose to act on their desires. It can be an individual choice, but I don't see why it should be forced on people and preached in the culture--especially when statistics and studies show it's not helpful in preventing widespread pregnancy or diseases.
We have urges, we have the urge for harming others, the urges for hunger, etc but we also have logic and reason and we can make decisions for ourselves. Allowing ourselves for sexual freedom has done nothing to help us and actually spread diseases. I haven't seen one inkling of proof that proved abstinence cannot be achieved.
Abstinence does not work one hundred percent of the time for people.
Sex education is the key on curbing pregnancy amongst men and women. Many people are not educated like most people on the IC.
So, how would you arrongantly state that they should be abstinent with their sexuality, when most do not have alternate information to stop pregnancy or getting a STI/STIs.
Majority of people in America do not have health insurance, and most clinics are flooded with people waiting in line at 4am to see a doctor at 8am when the health clinic is open. Or places like planned parenthood are going under due to people and their faux morality on abortion.
Out of the care that planned parenthood give, only 3% are abortions, and they encourage the woman to think about options to keep the child. Give the woman information on places that can help them with keeping the child and free medical help during the pregnancy.
Education is key on curbing unwanted pregnancy and STIs.
I have been to urban schools and a lack of self control is what I seen growing from there. I took the same education and had reason to understand that babies at a young age = bad. Morals and ethics and emotional support and education is a better tool to combat. All I originally said why is abstinence not even brought up in these debates and people act like it is impossible to do.
