I had this convo with Boss before, but I'll go deeper here. What Cosby said in his speech wasn't bad per say. He had a good message and he meant well. The issue is that we as black people don't have the same luxuries as white folks, they can say and do what they want. When you're a prominent figure speaking on a public forum you gotta walk that line. When you're black you have to pick and choose your words wisely, Cosby being an OG should've known better which led to white folks propping up his speech and cherry picked his words while pissing off black people.

That's really a problem that black people need to deal with because that actually makes us look fucked up and weak.

Cosby can say some truth to his people but because white people twist his words and message then black people get mad at Cosby cause they let white people control the narrative and message.

Expound on the bold.

I think you might've missed the point with the underlined. I never said or implied that you can't speak truth to your people. No matter what platform you speak on you're still speaking on platforms that are given to us by white controlled media/companies. How fucking telling is it that white people loved Cosby's speech while there were simultaneously a majority of blacks that lost respect for Cosby for that very speech just let that marinate, and then my point should be clearer to you..

In regards to the bold. The speech was given at a black event. If I remember correctly there wasn't this huge backlash from black people until the white media picked up on it and started putting their spin on it and acting like they've been saying the same shit for the longest time. As well as acting as if they are coming from the same space of love for black people as Cosby was coming from.

So if the majority of the backlash from black people didn't come until white people put their spin on it. Then that shows how fucked up and weak some black people are. I say that because black people letting white people put a battery in their back to go at another black person.

Facts is facts and in that speech Cosby spoke some facts. White people ain't really love that speech. What they did was seize an opportunity to cause more discord between a prominent black person and black people. Unfortunately some black people fell for that shit hook, line and sinker.

Its way more telling to me that way too many black people still just blindly follow the white controlled media and their narratives about black people without question. Instead of looking at what the white media is saying questioning them on the bullshit they've been spewing and continuing to spew.

Your point was always clear I just don't 100% agree with your point. Its not like the shit you said was deep and could actually go over someone's head it was basic as shit.

I already addressed the "black event" argument that platform was given by whites and they were allowed to hold that event by whites. So in a sense the audience isn't just black people. I don't remember whether black people caught outrage because of whites. But like I said regardless if a black person attempting to school black people but the only people that speech seems to resonate with are white people, then that's quite telling and that should let you know right there. Your point about black people following the media controlled narrative has validity but in this case how much does it apply? If my point was clear you sure are acting like you couldn't grasp it.

why do you care who it resonates with if its to help black people?

You think when great black leaders like King or Malcolm gave speeches that it would've helped black people if the message didn't resonate? From the transcripts I posted. js

We cannot blame white people. White people (clapping) .. white people don’t live over there. They close up the shop early. The Korean ones still don’t know us as well…they stay open 24 hours (laughter).

Still doesn't change what I'm saying because like I said. Cosby spoke "SOME" facts.

What you put in bold ain't a fact. Its flat out wrong of him to say. At the same time even though I 100% disagree with him I get the context in which he made that horrible statement.

He shouldn't have said it!

I was pointing out that whites were in fact in the audience and co-signing him. Not what he said. Which this was quite tame compared to the rest of the trash that exited his mouth that evening.

He was all over the place that evening and if carefully dissected it was incoherent, reckless and non-factual in some cases.

For example he says...

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans, they don’t know a damned thing about Africa. With names like Shaniqua, Shaligua, Mohammed and all that crap and all of them are in jail. (When we give these kinds names to our children, we give them the strength and inspiration in the meaning of those names. What’s the point of giving them strong names if there is not parenting and values backing it up).

How is that not a sweeping generalization and smack in the face to Black Americans who are in fact from Africa or those who have knowledge of self and have grown our children to live up their given names? We just cannot allow anyone I don't care how much they have donated to be this reckless.

Then he goes on to say.

You don’t read that. They don’t shoot down Black Muslims. You understand me. Muslims tell you to get out of the neighborhood. When you want to clear your neighborhood out, first thing you do is go get the Black Muslims, bean pies and all (laughter). And your neighborhood is then clear. The police can’t do it .

But he just attempted to scolded Black folks for naming their children Muhammad.

However, well meaning he thought this speech was, it was more of incoherent rant.

speaking as a philly native......the muslims here are fake as hell. most of them go in jail named bruce and come out tariq. most convert for protection, to fit in and the benefit....not because they internally want to do it.

its a running joke in the city. or at least it was.....even pac mentioned it in his song aint mad at cha...the lyric....oh you a muslim now?

hell,,,its still a fad in philly to grow a long beard. cosby lives in elkins park. right outside philly. is that not his reality?

as for the power in names.

cmon bruh.

do we not on this site clown the names and those attached to the names?

would we not think of white when we hear certain names?

would we think hoe when we hear certain names?

studies have been done that names and personalities are one in the same.

but on another note...i see what hes saying. and he has an excellent point.

its like being born with certain genetics and wanting to rest on it, without the work behind it.

how many niggas in basketball just big and dont know how to use it? but they thinking they big means something.

nah bruh....i dont agree.

think is...they have their own forums.

they dont break each other down when the goal is to build.

i see "THOSE" group unite no matter where they are.

i see black people not wanting to feel obligated to know or hang with other black people in company settings. not all ...but i see it more than i see unifying.

i can go so many places with this...

i see a very diverse but heavily divided people. like i said earlier....its not about rich or poor...its the toxic niggas that create the problems.

no matter who says what....if they there to build....it will reach you.

if you ok with being ok...or know you can do better but really dont want to....it wont reach you.

an be honest for a second.....are you really gonna say...dont throw your own under the bus?

we gonna use cosby for this example?

while your perception saying thats your truth.....my perception says....nigga look around. this happens everyday. hes nothing more than a face of personal frustrations for alot of people.

@2stepz_ahead You keep saying people are saying you have to be perfect when literally not 1 person has said that or anything close to it. Stop projecting your own insecurities...

And for the record I have stated, I don't believe the rape accusations against Cosby. However, his character can be brought into question because, of his decisions and how he conducted himself. Especially given his propensity for lecturing others. I'm not saying a man has to be perfect, however he should conduct himself with a bit more tact and caution.

This here...this point is not hard to grasp. Its not about not having any flaws...its just about not being reckless which he clearly was being

We're in a Cosby thread so who else should we be talking about? At the end of this I want to reach a middle ground, not to just read just to respond but also read to understand where each other is coming from.

You notice how no matter how much fucked up shit that happens to blacks you rarely see whites acknowledge the root cause? And when we do we get labeled as race baiters? If a prominent white person sits among a mixed crowd and talks down on white people and admit to white supremacy that speech would piss off whites while blacks would use that speech as validation and prop it up. The few "truths" would be overshadowed by this white person throwing whites under the bus. That pretty much was what Cosby's speech did, he spoke some real shit but he also shitted on black people and gave the racists validation.

Other groups have degenerates amongst them, but even they have the sense of racial unity to not shit on their own. When you're in a system of white supremacy as much as you want to freely talk shit, unfortunately we don't have that luxury and you must be careful about the words and the tone you use when speaking to your people. Cosby being an og and coming up in the civil rights era should've known better. Like I said lesson learned.

In order to be unified we must first have a code. Until black people have said code we're going to continue to be divided. It's ironic though, you want unity, but Cosby's speech was the opposite of racial unity AND you defending it is not unity. Real unity is having a code, real unity is checking niggas when they say dumb shit about blacks in front of whites, real unity is not caping for racists like Bill Maher and giving them a pass for saying the N word. You said you seen other groups together no matter where they are, but I bet they also have a code too. You want black people to do better, I'm attacking the root cause, while you attack the people in the fucked situation that's not unity. You want unity then you sir have to develop a code first.

i see black people not wanting to feel obligated to know or hang with other black people in company settings. not all ...but i see it more than i see unifying.

i can go so many places with this...

i see a very diverse but heavily divided people. like i said earlier....its not about rich or poor...its the toxic niggas that create the problems.

no matter who says what....if they there to build....it will reach you.

if you ok with being ok...or know you can do better but really dont want to....it wont reach you.

an be honest for a second.....are you really gonna say...dont throw your own under the bus?

we gonna use cosby for this example?

while your perception saying thats your truth.....my perception says....nigga look around. this happens everyday. hes nothing more than a face of personal frustrations for alot of people.

Great post. white folk don't use this type of information as constructive criticism or to find a way to assist. They use this type of information to pass laws to lock up and justify screwing us over, politically, economically, etc etc.

I agree....but that code should be our color since that's what separates us from everyone else when convient.

my argument is not to discourage but to point out how we allow shit to be OK, ywt complaint about shit not being ok.

we can't talk about not getting help but then talk about how help should be given.

you ever see a country hit by natural disaster? do you see how help is given to those who need it? it's throw out a plane or truck.

those people dint have time to say...can you hand it to me, I'm not a dog.

how we saying we poor and need help but pushing away help from our own because. of his personal vuces but asking the generational oppressor for help and wint attack them with the same energy.

to me...that makes no sense.

I fully agree with code...but not enough of us see a individual code. a code of a man among men..... too many see being apart of fukkery and exposure as what a man does.

every man needs a code.

but first, the person must be..........a man

Cosby put in work so he's certified in my eyes. He's helped a ton of black people and if certain blacks people can forgive whites who harm us then I can forgive mr Cosby and look at the bigger picture.

an that's why I am surprised so many are worried about how they feel.

we need to worry about our own.

they cycle stops when we veiw each other as equals with different resources.

the cycle stops when...I pause before I hurt my brother.

so many ways this can stop.

it won't happen over night...but it can happen.

some are just lost...but that's not the majority.

many are confused and scared. and that's OK.

but we need more leaders to lead to success and anything related to it.

and less fukkery inspirers and community destroyers.

why bring up his personal life when talking about rape....and why bring up rapr when talking about his personal life?

what y'all saying?

live ya life by what you preach or you won't listen?

Because his personal life is what led to these allegations and him being caught up in this. How is the basic concept of not being knee deep in the very shit you condemn others for this hard for you to grasp? Cosby talked up and down about personal accountability within the black community and being responsible for your actions...now his actions have led to these allegations...actions he admits to having taken some active role in regardless of legal guilt or innocence..and some of y'all are like "Why you talking about this. Why y'all trying to bring him down?"....its not about bringing him down its holding him to a standard he himself set. Will a man at times fall short of that? Of course. But part of being a man, hell an adult period, is acknowledgment of when you fall short , how you may have played a role in it...and actively working to do better. Giving him a million excuses as to why "people are out to get him" does nothing.

I said this same shit in the R. Kelly threads when niggas rushed to defend him just because "you shouldn't tear down someone black in public"...fuck that. Wrong is wrong and if you do wrong then you should be held accountable for it as well as be given the chance to make ammends

I agree but I will stand by not kicking each others back in, when given a public platform. That's just not cool to me. But I can certainly understand why some feel differently.

White ppl criticize other white ppl ALL the time.

Why you think it's a big divide in this country. If they were all on the same page, we (blacks) would be getting that 3/5 of a human treatment still.
