To me it was punchline and mixtape clones wares....At one point everyone new was a fab jada jay z banks and Cassidy clone and niggas associated east coast rap with oversized fitted and white t,s and screaming punch lines into a digi cam on utube.

To be honest it was the lack of new blood. That was the constant with the South. Since the South's rise there have constantly been new cats coming and going, adding new elements to the genre (positive or negative, your opinion).

No one Southern city has dominated for too long, ATL is the only constant but Tex, FL, NO/Louisiana, Tennessee all have had a run and it stays fresh.

50 was the last NY nigga really adding something different to the game, and then he went the Ja Rule route and offed himself.
