That's what I said. Radio in NY doesn't support it's rappers. THAT'S WHY no new rappers can emerge. Unless they go down south like French and Nicki.

IMO, there are a number of factors that contributed to the decline of NY rap music. Wack ass rap beefs, bullshit music ( although that pretty much applies to the overall decline of rap music overall regardless of coast ), sense of entitlement, crab in a barrel mentality, content disconnect from the average listener ( most people tend to gravitate towards music they can relate to or that gives them a feeling or experience. Nowadays the average rap listener isn't going apeshit over how dope your metaphors are or how creative your song concept is. ). Me personally......I don't give a fuck about none of that. Most of it is petty and irrelevant in my opinion. I care about the music art...the craft...the culture...the talent.......overall good music, and unfortunately I haven't heard much good rap music coming from anywhere lately...especially NY. Rap has gone from an artform to a get rich quick scheme and the quality/integrity of the music has suffered in the process.

Now if we talking about the sound, thats simple there is only like one popular sound and people from all over are doing it and on the mainstream level it seems as if the fans dont want to hear anything else.....That doesnt excuse the unoriginality and wackness though....I think the originality has run its course, I dont care how popular g-funk was and if you liked it, you wouldve never heard NY cats sounding like snoop and them in the 90's

Pro Era, Troy Ave etc aren't getting mainstream love right now.

Fuck it, the reason why NY fell off because they too arrogant. ASAP doesn't get NY love because he grew up listening to all sorts of hip hop and people hate on him because he doesn't sound like the average NY rapper. Are niggas really tryin to say that his mixtape is wack? All the rappers that have any sort of longevity in the game have had to constantly transform.

Word to the person that said that NY has an inflated sense of its own importance.

I know how these types of thread tend to turn into a "coast bashing" event, but the truth is that it's not just NY. All regions are suffering imo. NY has just been flopping the longest for it's own reasons which everyone has already stated. Nowadays, most regions have 1 or 2 standout artists who are really talented beyond the average run of the mill, cookie cutter, trend riders and gimmicks. The rest of them are average to below average in terms of actual talent and longevity. I think ASAP has some good shit, but he'll fall to the wayside shortly if he doesn't continue to grow as an artist. I'm still not sold on Joey Badass. It's almost like he's being force fed to the masses by those that miss that old 90s sound, but really he's just average by 90s standards.

New York while being infested with wack rappers like papoose, stench montana, and so on isn't as dead as people thnk. At the end of the day Jay-Z's summer tour with JT will be the hottest hip hop ticket this summer. Same thing if nas goes on tour coast to coast hes selling out the place. And when it comes to albums Jay and Nas both get heavy anticipation (Jay's album already has over 1mill in preorders and he announced it yesterday). And asap and joey badass have larger fanbases than the majority of cities across the country as far as new school rappers.

Yes there is a larger population base in NYC but how many hot new school artists houston got? Miami? Atlanta? Memphis? The west is rising again you can argue they got more and adapted better. But even chi town they got these mouse's and keefs but they can bareley get an album or locally tour.
