There are rappers that can go toe to toe with him technically speaking (not the guys you mentioned, but there are), there are that can go toe to toe with him on storytelling etc. ,but not that many that can even come close when you sum them all up.

Em get's a lot of praise from great rappers. Even Scarface said he didn't want to get on a track with him because he's just to good. 3 Stacks has said some great things about Em too. It's funny, most rappers who are considered legends have Shady in their top 5. It's cool though... Being the highest selling rap artist ever is gonna get you some haters. Jay's got em', Nas has got em' and that's just the way it works. Being a part of the rap game, you can't make everyone happy.

Eminem can't craft great songs?

Which is why artists like Nas Jay Kool G Rap Black Thought deserve extra mention they have some of the best catalogues and are also good lyricists.

But for me catalogue will always be what i judge rappers on, you actually helped my point with your example of the guy from your highschool with complxed rhymes, yet you wouyd never listen to his songs. I think the ability to craft a great album, and craft great songs should outweigh technical skills. At the end of the day there both important but spitting a bunch of multis about random shit is not impressive to me, i can do it now. But crafting a song is much harder, which is why i rate guys like Face higher than guys like Canibus or even Monch when discussing rappers. Face has a plethora of great albums and despite not being as technically skilled as most rappers you would find it hard to name me a rapper who has produced more quality music and has been consistent for as long as he has.

Which is my point about Em, there are alot of rappers who can go toe to toe with him technically speaking, guys like Canibus Lupe Mos Def etc. But what puts rappers ahead undoubtedly to me is their work, does Em have a top 5 catalogue to me? No way. You got Common Nas Jay Face Cube Ghostface Killah who have better catalogues.

em is a good artist indeed however i dont think that he is better than alot of our rappers today..i feel that it could be some type of controversial white people seterotype trying to get into the rap game...yes em is crazy yes he been through hella shyt when he was growing up but we all know that there is a diffrent struggle wit white ppl and black ppl and that is mostly becuase society puts it that way...they always try to keep black ppl down in some sort yea its gettin a lil better we got the president an all but still they do not realy want us to have our own lil special "spark" shall i say...im sorry em as the top selling artist??? he prob got alot of ppl "buying" his shyt he got all them behind the scene white ppl realy boostin him up and stuff but when i hear shady or em rap he mostly be just dissin celbs and talkin about ppl.... his first lil intro album was coo about errythng he was going through and his daughter and stuff yes tryna make us "understand" him and where hes comin from..... but personaly i cant stand these 2 men but i think that wayne or even jay is better than him...its even funny how jays big headed ass would even say somethin like that about em....very intresting indeed i also heard form someone that 8 mile isnt even in detroit...but that could be wrong i dont know...

Eminem is a dope lyracist. Style wise you may prefer others but I don't know how anyone could not put him with the best. Naz is beyond great but I think there's a lot of others he'd wanna battle before em. I'm not sure about the catalogue but if some guy down the street who nobody knew was the sickest out there... he'd still be the sickest out there regardless of a catalogue.
