I started listening to hip hop in 99' .. i was 9 .

The first Album i listened too fully was The Slim Shady LP ..

Growing up listening to Em, and liking his music till Encore, is the sole reason why he's one of the best in my eyes..
I fully believe that nobody was hating, or would've been makin threads about him from 00-04 .

Everybody was fuckin with the White boy at one time in they life (n/h) ...
Well .. at least nigga's 24 and under .. IMO

It depends what you mean by greatest of all time. is he in the top 30? yes. top 10? no.

and its not about color. its much deeper then that. especially for black people.

Rappers like the GZA, AZ etc who i think a way more lyrically solid then eminem fail to get a mention when people give there all time great emcee list.

You see Eminem is a different rapper then the other greats like big, LL, rakim,Nas, or a Scarface etc but lyrically there is no question who is better.

In my opinion Slim Shady Lp is his best work and his second album was good too.

but he hasn't really did anything up to that standard since.

Lyrically there's no denying it. Eminem lyrically is a genius on the mic. His clever wordplay brilliant.

But i put Eminem in the same category as Big Punisher, Pharoah Monch, Canibus, Ludacris. etc.

because these rappers are also clever with there wordplay.

but in my opinion lyrically they are all better then Eminem with the exception of Ludacris.

The fact is it shouldn't matter what color you are. White people rapping is no different to Latino's rapping there both not black and both doing black music.

Eminem is a great emcee. and i put him in the top 30 rappers of all time with no question.

but i can't put him ahead of artists like

masta ace, ice cube, scarface or kool g rap

Even he knows he couldnt have sold that much albums if he wasnt white. but i think people continue to buy his shit cuz it was tight. he let everyone know that he wasnt the first artist to say anything offensive but white people are protestin him cuz he's white and white people dont think one of there own should be expressing himself in such a way. if so then they woulda protested a bunch of other artist before him. this was in 1999 too.

2. He is what hip hop should be. Real, rugged, fresh, lyrical and conceptual. who says real hip hop shouldnt swear or have to use violent lyrics. this is one of the only rappers that still uses hiph hop to express himself and dont take advantage of the game. he makes his music for the ghetto kid with nothin. all this other mainstream shit where they braggin about they money is startin to piss me off. cuz black people listen to rap more then anybody and a lotta black folks aint got no money. this fool will spit his heart out on any song. on drugs or not. nobody has ever been as lyrical as he is.

3. He gave rap mainstream acceptance. Everybody was hatin on hip hop. but with the MARSHALL MATHERS LP he shut em all up. he pretty much let america know that HIP HOP SHOULDNT HAVE TO LIVE UP TO THE SOCIAL EXPECTATION OR AMERICAN STANDARDS. he exposed america because with his music, he's sayin ITS OK THAT THERE'S STILL STRIP CLUBS ON EVERY CORNER, ITS OK THAT THERES STILL PORNOS IN EVERY CONVENIENCE STORE. ITS OK THAT THERE'S STILL VIOLENCE, SEX AND DRUGS IN AWARD WINNING MOVIES, BUT WHY ISNT OK FOR YOUNG URBAN KIDS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES THROUGH HIP HOP.

Im black, could be biased but i dnt listen to em. One of my friends is an em fanatic so he always playin his music. From what i have heard i never liked. I just dnt be feeling his music.
