No one can make you do anything. You chose to react that way. I can honestly say that I've never been mad enough to not choose my options. I've fought people(not women) and it wasn't b/c "I just got so mad" it's b/c at the time that's how I wanted to deal with it.

And my dad hit my mom once when I was like 5. I cried and hid under the bed. He blacked her eye. Let's just say it never happened again, he didn't stay in the house for a week. My family don't play that. My uncles and cousins put the fear of God in that nigga. I can't even remember him as much as raising his voice to my mom since.
