Prior to professional sports having their Jackie Robinson and Jesse Owens moments those teams were segregated af. So how would that at all contribute to racial equality?

Obviously we're not talkin about a time that no longer exist.

Amateur sports are still pretty segregated as a consequence of municipal segregation. You're not gonna see Salvatore and Jamal hit some dingers and then get a pint

Which sports are these? Last time I checked, teams wanted the best players to win by any means necessary, word to all the schools doing illegal activities to get the best players.

Are you talking about schools or rec / city teams? Your line of focus is incoherent

U said "amateur sports", I asked which sports. Idk how else to put it bruh.

Anything below the professional level. Do you think white people that fled the inner city to the suburbs are putting their kids onto teams with nonwhites in the inner cities? You bring up schools but that's not symbolic of racism ending, that's just white people trying to exploit black athletes for the sake of their job and reputation.

lol so all sports are segregated now? Wow, clearly you dont pay attention to high school and AAU sports and Im telling you this from somebody who covers all of it in the state of Georgia lmao

I never said all sports are segregated. There are clearly "white sports" and "black sports", though.

If your argument was as strong as you seem to think you would have dropped facts instead of posing the question. I'm willing to be convinced but you're doing a bad job of it.

I said along municipal lines as a consequence of municipal segregation. How does that include all amateur sports? It doesnt. It would only be relevant to the cases where there are racial divides within cities and/or states. You can't deny that such divisions exist when we can see the consequences of them manifested in areas like school funding, infrastructure upkeep, and housing development.

If money and status were taken out of the sports picture then a lot of people would have nothing to do with anyone outside of their bubble. Ask a lot of these fans who their favorite players on their teams are, then ask those same ones about current events outside of sports and see what they say.

If it wasn't sports it would be something else. Indeed, it always is. Colour barriers have been broken in the sciences, in law, in politics, and all else. I don't think sports did anything these other areas didn't, other than give corporations another way to exploit black folks. There's a reason your favourite black athlete is in that sprite commercial, and it isn't because these corporations are your friends.

Both of you are talking about professional sports. Everybody doesnt play sports to try to get to the pros which is the whole point of this thread lol

I was talking about college, which is damn near run like professional sports lol.

Black athletes bring these schools(a lot that wouldn't think about them if they weren't on the team) a lot of bread, and a lot of the fans care more about the jersey than the niggas wearing the jerseys.

From personal experience, I became friends or at the least got along with people of other races half the time cuz of sports. Just like anything else it can divide, add, subtract & multiply.

I never said all sports are segregated. There are clearly "white sports" and "black sports", though.

If your argument was as strong as you seem to think you would have dropped facts instead of posing the question. I'm willing to be convinced but you're doing a bad job of it.

This is very limiting and diving way too deep into a situation that's not that deep.

Au contraire corn fritter the tentacles of RACISM touch everything you made a discussion on race sports and it's impact now you are saying people are going to deep.. There is a lot you don't understand then... it is that deep fam

How has the impact been negative compared to the positive of sports in general of today's society? Getting a group of individuals of all different races together to work with each other to obtain a goal that doesn't have to do with money or fame.
now you are oversimplifying your topic...those are frivolous connections to achieve frivolous goals outside the lines .. reality hits

Yea I realize I probably shouldve thought about my OP a little more than I did when I started it. *shrugs* u can still answer the questions tho kneegro

One of the first things colonial powers did when they subjugated a group of people: introduced their sports. There are a lot of thinkers who believe that sports are a way to pacify people. The more enveloped in sports the colonized become the less likely they are to rebel and dispel their colonizers. A lot of these games we play are rooted in unequal power between races and perpetuate that same inequality.
