Prior to professional sports having their Jackie Robinson and Jesse Owens moments those teams were segregated af. So how would that at all contribute to racial equality?

Obviously we're not talkin about a time that no longer exist.

Amateur sports are still pretty segregated as a consequence of municipal segregation. You're not gonna see Salvatore and Jamal hit some dingers and then get a pint

Which sports are these? Last time I checked, teams wanted the best players to win by any means necessary, word to all the schools doing illegal activities to get the best players.

Are you talking about schools or rec / city teams? Your line of focus is incoherent

U said "amateur sports", I asked which sports. Idk how else to put it bruh.

Anything below the professional level. Do you think white people that fled the inner city to the suburbs are putting their kids onto teams with nonwhites in the inner cities? You bring up schools but that's not symbolic of racism ending, that's just white people trying to exploit black athletes for the sake of their job and reputation.

lol so all sports are segregated now? Wow, clearly you dont pay attention to high school and AAU sports and Im telling you this from somebody who covers all of it in the state of Georgia lmao

I never said all sports are segregated. There are clearly "white sports" and "black sports", though.

If your argument was as strong as you seem to think you would have dropped facts instead of posing the question. I'm willing to be convinced but you're doing a bad job of it.

I said along municipal lines as a consequence of municipal segregation. How does that include all amateur sports? It doesnt. It would only be relevant to the cases where there are racial divides within cities and/or states. You can't deny that such divisions exist when we can see the consequences of them manifested in areas like school funding, infrastructure upkeep, and housing development.

This is very limiting and diving way too deep into a situation that's not that deep.

Au contraire corn fritter the tentacles of RACISM touch everything you made a discussion on race sports and it's impact now you are saying people are going to deep.. There is a lot you don't understand then... it is that deep fam

How has the impact been negative compared to the positive of sports in general of today's society? Getting a group of individuals of all different races together to work with each other to obtain a goal that doesn't have to do with money or fame.

You don't know how deep this is, do you?

One of the first things colonial powers did when they subjugated a group of people: introduced their sports. There are a lot of thinkers who believe that sports are a way to pacify people. The more enveloped in sports the colonized become the less likely they are to rebel and dispel their colonizers. A lot of these games we play are rooted in unequal power between races and perpetuate that same inequality.

You sound like my friend who believes the earth is flat and stopped eating meat because of YouTube videos he watched. Brilliant.

This isnt theory/conspiracy it's history

And wayyy beyond the point I was trying to make. Again, apparently I went about making the thread the wrong way, all good.

Are you gonna keep your kids away from sports because he/she will have to play with white people?

I said those those impacts were frivolous evidenced by the socio political climate that has persisted since forever and that has been inflamed the last 10 years or so

I don't get how you got any of that from what has been said.. who said anything about keeping kids away from fraternizing with different people, my point was that the societal impact of sports has been vastly exaggerated. People do foster/ forge meaningful relationships but overall societal impact negligible

From personal experience, I became friends or at the least got along with people of other races half the time cuz of sports. Just like anything else it can divide, add, subtract & multiply.

U had bad experiences with another race because of playing sports?

Oh hell yea. When I was in Little League one dude on the other teams dad (white dude) & my dad almost came to blows on some racist shit. I've delt with white dudes throwin nigger around when they get mad cuz I rocked em in football. Shit just recently thanks to the Kaepernick shit there's been arguments with people at work. Gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

Yea I get that and been in similar situations. Did that make u look at your white teammate differently? How did that next team meeting go?

No, but we're also not going to believe sports are some vessel for bringing about a post-racial utopia.

What's a better social way for kids....

To have cohabitate in the same communities..im still laughin at Salvatore and Jamal... Salvatore was totally left field Jamal was just a stereotypical as you can get without saying Tyrone.. bet money he thought about it...smh

White teammates were actually cool. Most of em grew up around us so they knew better than that shit especially during practice. Other schools we've played against we're normally all white rich schools or redneck cow pie schools. Some would normally try to get in your head with some racial shit (to draw you offsides, get you ejected). It never got me to the point of making mistakes. I always remembered it & it resulted in some dirty shit on the field. I used to love fumble pille ups. LMAO

It helped to continue bringing the stereotypes to the forefront. "White men cant jump" "Black guys run fast" "whitey uses niggaz for monetary gains".

It help black folks make millions but it didn't do shit for intergration and racial equality. Kaepernick and Boston fans pretty much sums up how whitey feel about us "outside the lines".

If niggas wasnt such great physical competitors they would of never gave a damn about bringing us into their world of sports. The possibilities of how this country would be different in such a scenario could fill a book, i reckon.

Lol u hate all white people?

Let's talk about the sudden rise of the number of female "sports enthusiast".

I don't know why i get the impression that shit is all a part of some deep, twisted ploy to trap an unsuspecting man somewhere, take him for everything he has and leave him with nothing.

I think there's some truth to this. However, I believe economics played more of a factor. For instance the Negro leagues were wildly successful. The Black product was superior to the white product. Not just the athletes but the shows and showman that accompanied the sporting Events. The Harlem Globetrotters were also a huge success and were known for destroying white teams at the time.

The one thing I give whites major credit for is, they see into the future. They knew 60-70 years ago that if, they destroyed their competition they wouldn't have to deal with them later on. Whether it was competing side by side or having to pay 10x more to buy out the competition.

To answer the question. With or without sports race relations would be right where they currently are.

And also from an impact perspective on the game of baseball Curt Flood >>>>>>>>>> Jackie Robinson.
