Eyewitness says Syrian military anticipated U.S. raid

Syrian military officials appeared to anticipate Thursday night's raid on Syria's Shayrat air base, evacuating personnel and moving equipment ahead of the strike, according to an eyewitness.

Dozens of Tomahawk missiles struck the air base near Homs, damaging runways, towers and traffic control buildings, a local resident and human rights activist living near the air base told ABC News via an interpreter.

U.S. officials believe the plane that dropped chemical weapons on civilians in Idlib Province on Tuesday, which according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights killed 86 people, took off from the same air base.

Former National Security Adviser and ABC News contributor Richard Clarke said this attack, one of the quickest displays of force by a new president in recent history, is largely "symbolic."

But just for comparison it took over 350 planes and 2 hours for the Japs to go in on the Pearl Harbor Airfield...and that was from the air

Im guessing in Syria whatever didnt make a direct hit on a runway or airplane shelter just landed into open field and made a crater

I think we could agree it was all for show. The US let Russia know in advance who in turn let Syria know, and Syria moved all its equipment and personel before the strikes.

This happened a few years back under Obama too. There was a town on the Syrian-Turkish border that Isis was trying to take over. The opposition group was putting up hell of a fight even though they were greatly outnumbered and had limited weaponry. So, the plea was for the US to help with airstrikes cause they were already striking Isis. The issue was that the opposition group fighting was a group Turkey was against, so, not to upset Turkey, the US made it look like they were helping by dropping bombs on the empty desert.
